Thanks! I can fantasize about a nice, ice cold beer, or a seductive glass of wine. Thats all. I have cirrhosis & am an older adult. If I want to give my liver a chance to improve, I will abstain from alcohol.

Yeah me too, my partner and family are big on booze so \it' always a little odd for me when we are all together. They respect my situation and are never in need of a designated driver ..lol

I quit smoking 4 yrs ago when they told me I had cancer and I haven't missed it at all. Now I've quit drinking. I won't miss the "social" drinking but I know I WILL miss good wine with a good meal. And good beer with Mexican food. But you know...So it goes. I've decided to assist rather than undermine my liver's noble efforts on my behalf.

I'm blessed or just lucky. I never liked any alcoholic beverages. Never liked the taste (with a few rare exception for some sweet drinks like Kahlua - did get "hooked on that for a short while in my 30s, was actually making it with vodka and coffee) and didn't like the high, specially didn't like the black-outs!

But, truth is that's how I got into drugs cause I was never a dinker . I come from an ethnicity that doesn't really have much of a gene for alcoholism - we are eaters, not drinkers. My friends who drink do so very sparingly, so i never feel pressured...or an odd ball for refraining. No one ever even asks why.

Truth is, I see it as a waste of calories... soda too. Too fattening and not as filling to me as food. I do know that an occasional glass of wine actually has health values, but, I only like very sweet wines. Riesling is ok and Zinfindel. If I'm offered a glass of those I sometimes indulge. It just is no big deal to me at all.

That is something I have thought about - a nice glass of wine....

I also need very important Medical Procedures done to my back that require sedation and right now I am walking around with the pain, afraid of even getting that stuff in me - but don't know if I will be able to hold off much longer - TOUGH DECISION!!

I come from a family line (on one side that you can't find anyone without a alcohol or drug problem, both and psychological.... I think we use or drink to "feel normal".........which "normal" people would not understand....I am talking about just being able to be in a group of people, PERIOD - a family function, etc.

Whatever, we all have to make decisions for ourselves and then liv with it......

Let's say you REALLY love a nice glass of wine or a bit of jack daniels.
And lets say it gives you tons of pleasure.
So my theory is that just like stress is bad for you and can damage your health, pleasure is good for your health. So maybe the harm done by the alcohol is neutralized by the health benefits of pleasure.

Can I just have a beer?

I don't miss liquor at all. What I really miss is fish and chips but now I can't get half way through a serving without going into a severe bilious attack. No fried foods at all :(

I have a long career of substance abuse behind me, alcohol being the underpinning throughout this 45 year drift. I have been in recovery for almost 5 years now, with any desire to abuse myself further being completely removed from me. Thankfully my HCV diagnosis coincided with my 3 year sobriety anniversary, and my liver had had a chance to get back in shape. I also eat well and am very active. Even tho a glass of crisp, chilled white wine sounds good on a summer afternoon, I am good that this is an avenue of dubious pleasure for me! No worries, my life has so much more richness now. When I started my TX, I asked my doc what "do's and don'ts" he might have for me: " Just don't drink" he said. No problem with that!

Gallstones Kramer? Biliary attacks/colic can be quite painful. I think I experienced 9 before we were on the right path of what it was. So happy to have had my gallbladder removed. I have no visible scars from that surgery.

Cirrhosis ECC. Lots of fibrosis around bilary duct.

After a couple of years of svr I started to drink alcohol again, after a while I found I still don't like hangovers nor do I like to alter my consciousness with it, I prefer pot. It was fun for a while but it's not for me any more.

for me .... one is too many and 10000 is not enough....Oh no no can't drink it no MO...got tired of waking up on the floor...I am an alcoholic I cannot drink and ya know a guy explained that to me at Home Depot he was shoping and we talked about addiction...I said if I drink , I die, he said I am a nurse in training and the body's cell's have a memory and that is why if I drink after 25yrs sobriety, Thank you God, that your body says , OH I remember you and goes back to ...1 qt a day of vodka in a matter of weeks...and then some
