I also prefer aspirin I'm luck that my stomach tolerates it well because I eat a lot of it.

As a general rule for everyone else: Aspirin, Ibuprofen and Tylenol all affect the body differently. Everyone should check with their specific doctor to find out which one of these is the best to take for their specific health situation. Don't assume that what is safe for one is safe for all.

One downside to aspirin for those who have low platelets...aspirin thins the blood. Not a good combination.

however, when i was in treatment my doctor explained to me why i needed to take tylenol rather than aspirin while in treatment: incase i needed emergency surgery.

aspirin reduces your clotting time and can cause serious problems if you need surgery. tylenol doesn't bother the clotting time. they usually tell you not to take aspirin two weeks prior to surgery.

you're on the new meds so maybe this doesn't matter? i was on the old meds two years ago.

my rbc's were low so i was put on procrit to boost them up. aspirin would have exacerbated the anemia problem i would imagine?

yes, check with your doctor as to which one you need take while in treatment. it seems to be different for all of us.

Your right Mary Kelly...my plateletes were exellent..I think he did mention that when he said go with aspirin..but he also said that although aspirn effects platlets (which is not the same as RBC's) its not "that" big a deal.

RBC's and Platletes are 2 different things...asprin has NO effect on RBC's....plateles are for clotting..arty knows..i heard him explian it once ask him im not googling sh&5 today

Well I'm screwed. I can't take aspirin or aniti inflamatories because of my stomach problems, and my doc has told me not to take tylenol. I have to take something. Glad you guys brought this up. I'll have this discussion with my doc Tuesday when I start meds.

well..Dragon...he said heroin wouldnt hurt me either...aparently the body has no problem at all metabolizing heroin..better than aspirin...except for the addiction part...

All NSAIDS (asa, ibuprofen like Motrin Advil etc) promote accelerated liver fibrosis. Tylenol does not, however you must not exceed 2,000 mg of acetaminophen (Tylenol) in 24 hours or you will overwhelm your liver and cause serious problems. People with healthy livers can safely take 4,000 mg in 24 hours but our weak livers process drugs more slowly.
Tylenol (in lower doses) is the safest for the liver.
