I was wondering the same thing. I'm not ready to date just yet, but have signed onto a few just to look. The women that I see on them don't look to bad actually. I've never communicated with any of them though. I've been on OKCupid and Match. Match appeared to have higher quality persons.

I'm sure others on the forum will respond. I know that OTM has posted before about her experiences.

I paid for match a few years ago. Got nothing but pervs responding. I requested my money back. They did.

Hi MsViv.... I actually met my fiance on a dating site. I have used them for years. I did have a few encounters with pervs... but its pretty easy to weed them out (at least it was on POF). All I had to do was make my profile private.... The only bad thing with that was that I had to be the one to make first contact (because my profile didnt show up in any searches). It was great because I could search profiles based on what I liked, and if I found someone interesting, I just sent them a message. Once I sent them a message- they could see my profile. Also, I just made sure I was very honest in my profile. I stated exactly who I was, and why I was on the site. & I stayed away from the guys thats relationship goals were "casual" or "for fun". Its pretty obvious what they were on the site for. But there are guys out there that used the site to look for a love, not lust. Good Luck to you Hon... dont give up!

I was on the sites for about 2 years. They aren't too bad, but you kind of learn how to weed out the crazies. My advice is to use the pay sites (like Match), because you are going to get higher quality matches (does that sound bad? LOL). Good luck!!!

I did use match. The paid version. It was bad too. I asked for my money back. Didn't I write that earlier ? I don't feel like scrolling to see if I did.

Yes I have. If you're just looking for conversation, you have to be very clear in your dating profile that you're just looking for FRIENDSHIP.

Before I know if I love a woman, I have to know I like her, intellectually, whether she can carry on a conversation, whether we share some of the same interests outside of each other. Once that's established, hey, if I like the way you look, sweetness, passion and lust just oozes out of me naturally.

I tried a free 7 day trial of Match and pulled my profile down after 4 days, but not in time to avoid a scammer. It took me a few days to get suspicious, but once I did, I ran his photos through a reverse image search and Bingo! Being a newbie, I wrongly assumed that Match did something to ensure profiles are legit. NOPE!

I mean, come on, Match could easily do an image search to weed out known scammers.

My recommendation is to always do an image search whenever you start having online discussions.

I'm tentatively trying out Tinder. It's known as a hookup app, but people are using it for dating as well. Just be upfront and clear in your bio. And be ready to block people who jump straight to sex talk. (The first guy I spoke wouth quickly talked about deep kissing (ok), cuddling (ok), oral (too soon), anal (no!), and then announce that he shaves below the navel (tmi.). Goodbye! I gave him the heave ho. Now talking with two nice men -- one divorced for 3 yrs and just starting to date, the other a widower.

No, I have not, but yes I have thought about it. I am widowed after 31 years of marriage (2 years ago , husband died) Have been seeing a guy since then , but one year of it has been long distance and since it is really a friends with benefits relationship (sex is main part probably) , it is lagging now because of distance thing. I did not even want another relationship when my husband died. FWB guy says he opened the floodgates probably. lol. I do get curious out of lonliness sometimes but I figure those sites are rife with pervs and dangerous , potentially. Plus, my willpower is awful. Even though , sharing this now, I have no desire for sex at all.....I never think about it. well maybe when the moon is full. ha ha. But I kind of wonder if I would get turned on so much from the gross pervs I might not make great decisions. My cousin and his wife , met on a Christian dating site and are happily married since 2007 , with 2 kids. Not that I would go on that kind of site. Just saying.

My husband and I met on match.com. However, that was nearly 12 years ago...so i dont know how it is now.

Agree on plenty of fish....they actually have parties to meet up and mingle. ... usually a new years eve party... definitely try it for awhile. .. free back when I last divorced.... good luck!
