my sister told me about someone who other teachers can hear yelling at her kids and being mean to them at times. yet she won the teacher of the month award. umm.....huh???

I'm not defending this teacher's actions, but teachers in general have a VERY stressful job. Some kids are completely out of control and have no respect for authority or anything. It's disgusting how some teachers react, but I'm not surprised when I hear it.
It is a little shocking she got teacher of the year though.

it is stressful i'm sure but i know of other professions that are just as stressful but forget it. i'm being stupid is all.

Winning an award doesn't mean too much in my opinion.
My boss gets recognized for things all the time with awards, etc.
She is a lying psychopath and the business is currently being sued by five former employees.

She may very well be a good teacher sjg. Maybe she demands perfection?

I know when I ran a design division at a big corp, I yelled at my staff all the time. I was called a bitch quite often - I demanded perfection. yet when jobs came up in my department, there were numerous requests from within the corp for people who wanted to work for me, not because I yelled, but because I taught and let them be creative.
Yelling is not always a sign of meanness.

This is national volunteer week. The only reason I know it is because I was sent an email to let me know how much I am appreciated.

I volunteer at a food bank. I don't do much. Put some things on the shelves, check people in, make sure food isnt outdated, And sometimes help them out to their car with their packages.

I may have gotten a thank you from the coordinator, but volunteering there has done so much more for me. Somehow just getting out of the house and having a place to go for a few hours a week is doing wonders for me in my healing process of a horrible few years.

MsViv - I also became aware that it's national volunteer week. I got 2 invitations in the mail to attend a free dinner and to just meet up with other volunteers whom have volunteered at the same places.

I have volunteered at a couple Boys and Girls Club over the past two years. I love it there, and I don't know where I would be if I had never met any of those children. You get so much satisfactory out of helping others, and that is what honestly makes it all worth it :)
