I'd just like to say how much this article SUPER pissed me off.
" I find this article to be kind of ridiculous and way to diminishing and childish of the age group in question.
"Nearly eight-in-ten of these 25- to 34-year-olds say they dont currently have enough money to lead the kind of life they want, Pew results found, compared with 55 percent of their same-aged peers who arent living with their parents."
I think this is the most important piece of the entire article. Nearly 80% of these 25-34 year olds say they don't have enough money to lead the kind of life they WANT...compared with 55% of their same-aged peers who aren't living with their parents. So less people who are paying more in living expenses are dissatisfied with their life and ability to be satisfied. What that says to me is nothing more than the fact that a lot of people in this generation are selfish, instant gratification seeking, lavish living required beings. Not all of them are...but I admit I am biased.
Being 2 years younger than the youngest age in that bracket and having financially self-supported since I was 12 and lived on my own entirely since I was 19, I don't see what's so hard about it. Living the life they WANT is the big key thing. I don't have a 50' plasma TV, I don't have the newest computer, I don't have cable, and I sure as hell don't have a closet full of the most expensive brands on the planet! I always shop sales, purchase quality products within my budget, and save for everything I want. I don't HAVE the option of going back home because there is no such thing in my world.
I am very disgusted by the actions and inaction of our generation. Running back to Mommy and Daddy because they can't go get trashed at happy hour every weekend and working a 30 hour a week minimum wage job is all they're willing to do.
Sorry if this offends anyone, but I think the legacy this generation is leaving is absolutely unacceptable. And people like me and others that I know that work their asses off, is thrifty and saves, makes things happen, and demands a better life instead of saying, "Oh there's no jobs I'll just move in with mom and dad" are the minority.
Not to mention the hysterical fact that the people talked about in this article regularly, REGULARLY make fun or scoff at me for the fact that I work 100 hours a week, have my own place, and don't go out drinking and smoking. Because apparently I'm the weirdo."
Then in another response I said,
"I think instead of focusing on the whiny kids that go back to mommy and daddy, the news should be focused on writing articles about the people like Acey and I who are actually doing something with their lives. Who don't have anyone to fall back on and who do amazing things anyways. Those people in the world don't get nearly enough credit for what they do."
