Catfishing is making an ID on line and seeing if you can make someone fall for the fake persona. I suppose it came from laying bait etc imagery.

Rick, I understand your point, but the fact is that myself, Viv, Itson, Don ( the others who replied about catfish )and alot of others have been on this site for many years ( I have been here for 7 years ) and there is a particular ' pattern' that emerges when these catfish or trolls come here. They do it repeatedly and they infiltrate many different groups( main boards and subgroups) . Often times, they have trouble keeping their stories straight ( or should I say consistent ) within different groups. They illicit sympathy and support and alot of attention until their stories become more dramatic and eventually, usually some tragedy occurs and they up and leave the site leaving those who cared about them distraught because of the emotional investment they have made in this person and these people who were ' conned' are left worrying about this person and what may have happened to make them leave so suddenly. Sometimes, the ' troll' will say they are leaving and when they do, it is typically in a dramatic fashion.. ( this also typically happens after they feel like they have been " too EXPOSED" and they have nothing else to do but leave at that point. Then they come back again, fairly quickly in most cases, and start the charade all over again. I have witnessed it more times than I can count and so have alot of my friends. It saddens me because this IS a support site and everyone of us wants to believe in the good in people and that they are here for the right reasons, to offer support and to ask for support and for me and most of us to have some fun and laughs while doing that because we all need to be able to have laughter in our lives, especially when we suffer from a variety of mental and health issues that brought us here in the first place... Sadly, some are not here for those reasons.

Having grown up in Florida, I can tell you right now, many Marylanders and Pennsylvanians don't know how to properly cook catfish. Must be a southern thing.
