So at volleyball practice today we did a lap around the school, did step ups and jumped off the bleachers to practice our jumps. Then after we got back inside the gym, a slight breeze rolled in from outside and I made the "that feels good" meme face and was like "dat breeze". Did it to myself as to not disrupt practice.

So apparently according to my homeroom teacher who made the remark regarding homosexuality, says that the Christian god is the true god and that all others are made up. I felt like saying "I am Wiccan and my God and Goddess are as real to me as the Christian God is to you." But no I bit my tongue and endured her stupidity. IMO there is no one way to believe, so really who is this cunt to judge others' beliefs?

If I can redo one thing before I die, it will be watching The Phantom of the Opera live again...except next time, I won't have some stupid argument on my mind and will truely enjoy it :)

ok...i dont know what to do! the lady at my work who is in charge of schedules and staffing never returns my calls. like, ever. i have to keep calling until i get a hold of her.

i finally got a hold of her last week to give her my schedule of available days so i could finish training. When i was looking at the marks on my calendar i had made i realized that i accidentally read off the day that my son starts pre-k, which is tomorrow! so obviously i cannot work that day.

I have been trying since last wednesday to get a hold of her to see if i can either switch that day to a thursday morning shift or to the tuesday night shift and i havent heard back at all. I have called 3 times, left 2 voice-mails AND sent an e-mail and NOTHING. i dont know if they are intentionally not returning my calls so they can fire me if i dont show up on tuesday, or if my schedule is switched and i just dont know? i am freaking out about it! i dont want to end up getting fired, but this is really frustrating!

any words of wisdom for me?

Des, what time are you supposed to start work? is it the same time as when you some starts school? If so and you don't want to lose your job, I would suggest that you have your husband take the time off from work and drop your son off at school.

Businesses don't want to hear that you have a baby sitting problem. I would also suggest you get the phone numbers of others who work their to see if they are available to cover your shifts, and ask the scheduler how you are to handle an emergency - such as - is there another number you are supposed to call.

What is protocol if you don't show up?
Is the person who is on the shift before you required to stay until a replacement shows up? if that is the case, are you able to do that when you are on the job. All things you should familiarize yourself with. This is all a learning experience for you.

I'm wishing you luck and hope all works out well in the morning - with your job and with your son at preschool.

viv----- i was supposed to be at work at 6:30 and work until 2:30, my son has to be at school at 9:00 and gets picked up at 11:30. There is no way i am missing my first day. I followed protocol as much as i could. I am technically still in "orientation" which means that i am not on the floor solo, so i cant call the charge nurse. It says that i am supposed to call the number for staffing...which i did...4 times! i left 3 voice-mails AND sent an e-mail. i really just dont know how much more i am supposed to do if she just wont answer or return my calls for a week!

i really just dont know what to do. I guess i will just keep calling to reschedule my day and just show up on friday when i am supposed to work or call the charge nurse later today and ask what she wants me to do since i cant get a hold of who i am supposed to. if this is the way they go about firing someone, it is really crappy. if this is how it is run on a day to day basis, i dont think i will be THAT upset if i dont work there anymore. I dont understand how i would be able to cover shifts for people if i cant get a hold of the person i need to to tell them i can cover a shift!

i was actually warned about this by the other nurses. they told me that their turn over rate is about 50%. I was really surprised and asked if that was because of firing or quitting. they said it was about 50/50. the people higher up either like you or they dont and will find a way to way to fire you if they dont. They also said that scheduling is often a mess for PRN people and often when people dont show up, it is because they just didnt KNOW they were supposed to work.

It sounds like you did everything you should have done..it's in the schedulers hands now. Who knows, maybe she hates her job and only answers calls when she feels like it...

i ended up just calling the charge nurse in the area that i was doing orientation. she asked, "are you still doing orientation?" so i am wondering if that isnt my sign that i am no longer welcome there. But, i let her know that i would like to come thursday to make up for today and i am already scheduled for friday. she wrote down my info and said she was going to go talk to the staffing lady for me and have her call me. gah. this is so frustrating. i wonder if i shouldnt start filling out some applications at other places?
