If they did drugs in their past but were now clean that would be fine.
I have had alcohol issues myself so I would also not date a drinker!
Being someone who knows addicts I must inform you prescription drugs are being abused like heroin and crack. And if pain management is their reasoning be mindful when that no longer works things will begin missing. Like money, electronics, dignity, peace love etc.
Be careful. And are you a drug user /abuser?
I feel strongly about living healthily; I am sensitive to the smell of smoke (tobacco or other drugs); and the idea of putting a substance into your body that will make you disconnected from reality artificially alter your mood rubs me the wrong way. I believe in respect and tolerance towards others' beliefs and lifestyles. But when it comes to a life partner, I need someone who shares my feelings on this issue.
Regarding alcohol: I don't like the taste, and I want to remain connected to my feelings, not separated from them. So, I tend not to drink. I used to never drink at all, but these days, I taste things here and there (both because I'm curious about their taste, and because it's a way to have social connection). As such, I have a more lax view towards others' drinking: As long as it's in moderation, I'm okay with it. If someone wants to get drunk, I will not hang around them.
I realize this puts me in a minority in our larger society... but I'm not new to that in this world.
You can find large groups of people who choose to live a healthy lifestyle and refuse to dump chemicals into their body.
It is also extremely important to me that my partner is not a user. My current partner is a recovering alcoholic, and in a funny way, that works out better for me because he is more strict with his intake than most people who havent experienced a struggle with it in the past.
And I also feel that I dont need to uninhibit myself in order to act like a fool. I do that just fine all by myself :)
