Healthy Relationships Support Group
No relationship is perfect. A long-term relationship requires constant effort to understand each other, fix misunderstandings, solve problems and continue to grow as both individuals change and evolve. How we deal with our misunderstandings is the focus of this community. Join us to find support, get advice, and share your experience with your relationship.
If you struggle with being honest, as you say, and want to be an honest person, I'd suggest you seek the help of a therapist, and spend the months and sometimes years it takes to develop integrity.
Lying, and the reasons for it, is far more complex than just the will to stop. It requires a reconfiguration of your beliefs, with a dedicated determination to be morally responsible to tell the truth at all times, and respectful to people around you, at all times.
You ask why you lie, and I believe I can tell you why. You lie to your wife because you know that if you tell her the truth, you won't be able to get away with whatever it is you're lying about. It's a cowardly way of dealing with stress, and the foolish thing about it is, it actually brings more stress into your life, when you have to lie.
I wish you well.
