I must have a connection on the physical/sexual level, common goals, values and intellect, good emotional/mental health and common spiritual beliefs. We must "click" physically, emotionally, intellectually and spiritually.

The ability to be authentic, have common sense discernment, good hygiene, and be able to tell the truth at all times, is a prerequisite. Having same interests with a compatibility for spending long periods of time together, and treating one another as you would a friend, is paramount for joyful longevity.

Intelligence, the ability to discuss everything including finances in a calm matter to try and resolve whatever problems there may be. Genuine warmth and caring. Mutual physical attraction. A certain flexibility and a sense of humor!

I agree with a lot of the reply's. I feel a relationship is two people against the world to put it so blunt and honest. There are SO many factores out there that can tear apart a relationship and often do, because one of the people is not strong enough to either resist or they just give up. I have often found selfishness plays a huge role in relationships these days and many people what all that they want and want it now and do not want to give to anyone else.

THE IMPORTANT part IMHO

Look at the goals of a relationship. To build a lasting bond, move on to create a family and live long and grow old together. Share a life of love and respect together.

NOT IMPORTANT

Huge financial gains, big houses, cars/trucks, boats, planes and bank accounts. If you worship money the relationship ALWAYS comes second and suffers. When you grow older your older family members die and kids go off on their own lives. It SUCKs being alone. Oh and all that money will go to snakes called lawyers and the vultures that come to pick your bones.

Investing in love and caring relationship is the only thing that truly brings a lasting satisfaction and a fulfilling life.

Sincere mutual respect, beyond "live and let live". Mutual fondness and support, including understanding and observance of personal boundaries. Open-minded and even-handed negotiation when necessary. A predilection to candor, kindness and positive action and attitudes. A desire to exist harmoniously with all and sundry.
