Healthy Relationships Support Group
No relationship is perfect. A long-term relationship requires constant effort to understand each other, fix misunderstandings, solve problems and continue to grow as both individuals change and evolve. It is not recognized that a relationship generally complicates life, not rids it of problems and hardships.
Easy example - i know someone who had a miserable home life growing up, but instead of thinking hard about it and building a life for herself, she married the first asshole alcoholic who thought she was attractive. She had two children. He beat the crap out of her and the kids. Eventually he died. She married yet another asshole and had another child. He abused her and was a serial cheater. Eventually he left her.
This woman is now in her late 70s. She has no friends, no social life. All of her children are screwed up and perpetuating the cycle. Their children are also screwed up. This woman bread a whole village of dysfunction just because she wanted to fill that void.
It is sad.
