I haven’t been around much since the website updated because I still HATE it! LOL
But I won’t be a negative nilly about it, so here’s my first post since the update.
I’m not sure that I’ll ever get married again? I was married once for 20 some odd years until it ended in divorce. I’ll spare you the painful details as they’re not relevant to this discussion. But following the divorce and the several years since I’ve thought of marriage and what it represents and the meaning it holds…and I’m not sure that I believe in the institution any longer?
My view, admittedly is very cynical. One of those “Once bitten, twice shy” kind of things.
What is marriage exactly? In the legal sense anyway? Is it not in fact merely a Government sanctioned legal document that exist and is on file in a courthouse? Is it not simply a legal contract, a financial document?
I know what marriage is supposed to be…it’s a union that two people enter into…each making a lasting commitment to one another…your best friend…your partner in life…your lover. It’s a commitment of the heart and mind. It’s the trust and assurance that each can rely on the other that they’ll be there through the good times and the bad.
But those qualities come from each individual, not a particular government, it's a personal choice they each make from within their hearts.
So my question is…if you find that type of relationship then why is it necessary to file some legal document in some court house somewhere? To make it official? Does it cement the bond in some more profound way?
Here’s a little tongue and cheek example but I think it demonstrates my point. Pretend that me and a woman somehow end up marooned on a deserted island, the only survivors of a ship wreck or something? And over time we fall madly in love and have the type of relationship I just described. We love each other and want to be husband and wife and get married…OH, but wait! There’s no preacher? There’s no Judge? There’s no courthouse to file your marriage certificate? Well shit fire! Don’t that just suck…well honey, I don’t guess we can be husband and wife so I’m afraid you’ll have to live on this side of the island and I’ll have to live on the other side cause we don’t have any way to get married quote/unquote “Legally”.
In this scenario, are we somehow precluded from ever becoming mates?
I’ve met someone and we’ve been together going on 3 years now. We have the type of relationship that I’ve described. We both share similar views as those I’m describing to you now in this post. AND…she’s just as cynical of the “LEGAL” aspects of marriage as I am (at least she says she is? Sometimes I wonder?).
But I keep thinking more and more about it.
Oh well…I’m just sharing some philosophical thoughts that I’ve been having about the subject. Curious as to what other’s experiences and perspectives may bring to the table.

I'm feeling down,, and got alot on my mind right now. I got grief going on, on top my depression and anxiety and now I got to worry about somewhere to live since I can't afford living here since my mom passed. So many bad things have happened since my mom passed. One thing after another it seems. Yesterday our fence fell from a storm that hit, had to call someone to prop it up. Thank...
Courts are set out to deal with marriage if a relationship doesn't work out so I think the big thing is 'if it doesn't work out' and of course people when they're gaga always think that it will
