I would recommend some therapy.... Being brought up by a narcissistic parent is bound to leave some serious scars ... Narcissists suck the life out of you
You can rebuild the ego of your inner child with some help.... Big hug and a blessing....xo
To answer the other part of your question. Since you're already highly familiar with the personality type, it makes it easier to become alerted to someone who displays such characteristics. Whenever you find yourself in their presence, play along until you can take your leave, then make every effort not to engage with them again; make it a rule. You'll only be letting people you enjoy into your life, and with time, that circle grows, filled only with like-minded individuals, who know how to enjoy life without putting people down, deceiving or manipulating them in any way, ever.
Wishing you well.
