Hi everyone, know this isn't a romantic relationship issue, but here goes:
My best friend and I have been buddies since we were 15 (both approaching 30 now). Obviously we used to do everything together when we were younger, took classes together in college, blah blah blah. She married and had a kid a few years ago which meant we spent less time together, but I was okay with it. Her priorities were her husband and children and that's where they SHOULD be. But over time, we ended up not really seeing each other much at all because I didn't have a child to care for or anything and our interests shifted different directions.
Last spring, I tried to make several plans that would be "kid friendly" so that she wouldn't have to find someone to care for her son while we hung out but she either never responded or had a reason to not go. I pretty much gave up after that. Well, I was in a serious car accident this summer that involved my car rolling down the interstate. The day I came home from the hospital, I called her to let her know what had happened and to just...talk. I was still shook up and rattled from such a severe accident. She pretty much bitched me out, said I shouldn't have been trying so hard to hang out with the friends I was with that day (still do not understand that...they had nothing to do with the wreck and are pretty upstanding people), that I only talked to her when something was wrong, called my boyfriend a piece of shit (she has still never met him and knows next to nothing about him), and said she had already "mourned our friendship." Okaaaay.
She has a history of blowing up at people when they don't do what she wants or in the manner she wants. I have already heard her use the "mourned friendship" line on someone else years ago. We used to call her Hurricane Jane in high school because of this, but honestly, the gig has gotten old. A 17 year old high schooler throwing fits is one thing, a grown woman with a family of her own is another. Fast forward a few months and out of the blue, I get several text messages saying she thinks she's getting a divorce, her husband is saying mean things to her, her mom has been diagnosed with a severe illness. I answered back and forth a bit, but truthfully, I'm not over how she talked to me right after I was in an accident that almost killed me. It feels like an exhausting friendship where she's dictating all the rules. I certainly feel for her situation right now, but I really don't think I want to be involved. She doesn't have many friends anymore because she pushes people away with her actions, but I had never really been on the receiving end before. Am I wrong to not respond and be there for her? It just seems like it's finally time to let the friendship go.

We lived together when we were young and she can be a wonderful person as long as things are going 'her' way..... and it's her way or no way
Over the top type A..... I find it takes way to much out of me.... We still talk on the phone every few weeks and see each other once or twice a year and that's the best thing for me
She's a drama queen from the sounds of it and this type of person can suck the life out of you
Healthy boundaries are important and it sounds like she said some pretty hurtful things....
Did she ever apologize?
I think you should do what's best for you having boundaries in place....
We talk about all kinds of relationships on this board...... Big hug....x
I think you have a very healthy handle on this.
