So, my new relationship is going pretty good, except I ve come to realize that my man has really low self esteem. He is a BIG, tough man, but on the inside he is sensitive , somewhat afraid and hurting.
All of this stems , I think, from abusive father and an abusive ex wife. He makes remarks that let me know in a round about way that he is worried about me cheating on him and he has poor body image , because he used to be obese and is overweight now and IMO he is doing destructive things to his body to make himself feel better.
I reassure him all the time and I have no problem doing it, but the self image thing I can't do anything about and it makes me worry about the future.
If you have been involved with a person like that, did it ever get better for them?

Nationalday.com proclaims September 28th as Self Aware Day. I took a few snaps of various core values lists and tried to pick my top five core values (kinda hard to only pick 5). But here are my top picks. Feel free to list a few of yours too:GodLovePeaceStability Compassion

Now that I am not talking to my whatever best friend, I realized that her life is full of drama. I had grown tired of hearing her stories about her boyfriend many months ago. She basically had been monopolizing conversations for that long too. She pretty much stopped asking me questions about me. I passed her in front of her classroom the other day and didn't even look at her. I am...

I had his issues and have been with insecure people. I know how frustrating it can be. Its quite co dependant isn't it. And the body image thing too. It doesn't matter what you do but most of all you need to be consistent with him, it just takes time for him to relax and trust you. It sounds like you are doing all that. Maybe focus on health and wellness rather than weight loss, and this will follow, so thats getting outside more and doing fun things together, bike rides, skating, dancing, going to gigs whatever you like to do, do more of it. Focus on loving life. Its not really about his body its about self-hate and this stems from self esteem.
I retrained to be able to work with people in this area as I was anorexic bulimic for 8 years and couldn't find a solution. The Thrive Programme is part of what I use with my clients. Please look it up, I don't think I can put a link here but the website is Thrive Programme dot org xxx
Seriously, there's something to what Koolman is saying. It takes bravery and maturity to start a relationship. It takes the same to deal with it if it should end, regardless of how it ends. I think a healthy understanding that a relationship can go to shit at any point, for many reasons, is something everyone should come to terms with before entering a relationship. I remember when my husband and I were first together, and he said to me, about a month in, you know, I'll be crushed if this doesn't work out between us. I said to him, me too but so what. If you get crushed and then you heal.
