sounds like you are not on the same page, you need to figure that out, if you trult need the commitment of marriage and he refuses , you have a big problem and are missing a key ingredient to a healthy relationship.

I think you should tell him how you feel! Women sometimes need that committment of marriage. I have been evolved with my fiance for 13 years and now that he is finally grwoing up and understanding what it takes to make a relationship work I am reading for that step too.

you've been together for 13 years, I think the general guidelines of God's desires for us to be monogamous are satisfied, whether or not you have the piece of paper. I wouldn't worry about that aspect of it at this point. focus on the relationship, what's healthy and what isn't. his family doesn't seem to value marriage. if he's committed to you maybe that's all you need.

i know washington state common law marriage is 7 years. but there are certain stipulations to it.

just talk with him. he prolly has some idea in his head that getting it on paper is going to mess everything up. it is a common misconception.

i hate hearing people say why mess it up with mairraige and i really don't understand that it just shows that you are committed to just that person and you will devote your lives to each other which you are already doing so why not make it official in the eyes of god and your family..i know a lot of people will have something to say about that but its just my oppinion..you are both grown up and mature and if you both want to be together a mairraige is a wonderful way to celebrate that with everyone you love..i say yes if its important to you confront him about it and let him know its been on your mind..
