Catfish?

Has anyone been cat fished? I've been doing online dating and wow what an experience lol. So bottom line there is a guy I've been talking on and off to for a long time. I haven't spoken to him in about 3 or 4 months, and yes its ridiculous I think I think about this person I've never met. When I say on and off, I probably haven't heard from him in a month or two then I'll message him on the site then the conversations start all over again for like a month then it stops. I always thought maybe he's just not interested in me to meet but has fun messaging. I've done that, and never met anyone. So far from what I know about him he fits my mold of a guy cause I'm SUPER picky about men. He's still on the site and pretty active. So I'm not sure what his deal is or if the profile is fake. Pics are still the same, nothing new. I've Google imaged his pics and no other pics come up to see who this person is like the guys on catfish. Thoughts?

go to his profile ..copy any or all pics and save them to your desk top go to that site and upload it.. it searches the internet for duplicates and if it finds any it will list the sites its on.

I just wanted opinions if this is a real profile or not. I would think not, but my friends think so if we haven't met. He claims he travels a lot for work so who knows.

He can be a catfish, married or looking for hook ups while traveling. Guys don't sit online and chat for a long period of time. Trust your instincts.

He is probably already taken (committed relationship/ married), or doesn't resemble his profile at all. I once had a texting buddy, who put offf meeting for 2 months, we appeared to get a long great, in text/ phone, but once we finally met, he did not look at all like his profile. Face to face, he was also kinda a jerk. Never again,

if a guy is interested, he's got to met me within the first week (or two tops). Otherwise communication will pretty much come to a halt. Waste of time.

I'm with MTZ3. Within a week or two there needs to be a date or it's a total waste of time. One guy told me he wanted to get to know me before meeting me...through texting. SMH you CAN'T get to know someone that way. Previous generations before texting managed. I think we can too.

Some people enjoy the messaging/texting part...but do not want to commit to actual face-to-face meeting.

Others, I have found, enjoy online dating because they can give ten percent of their time to ten people (like a buffet) instead of committing 100 percent to one.

i know someone who been catfished. they met this guy online, never met him in person but they talked to him everyday,until one day they find out that not only was he not the guy in his picture but that it he was a she. for them it was a game but when they saw my friend was sincere the guilt set in and they confessed. soo...i think anything is possible...lets say he is legit it also possible that he is not that into you. like someone mentioned he could be married. you should just let go and move on, instead of worrying about someone who may be fake and may not have as much interest in you as you do for him. you deserve to be happy, i wish you the best.

I've been victimized by a Catfish. I wish I'd known about Google image search. That would have ended things right away.

Definitely insist on a Skype video chat or face to face meeting. Don't assume that a regular phone call will prove anything. If you have access to sites that give you information from public records (criminal, bankruptcy, divorce, etc.), definitely check those.

If he has excuses for avoiding Skype or face to face, assume that he is a Catfish and move on.

I learned all this the hard way. It's not ridiculous to think about someone you've never met. The texting and even voice calls can create a sense of intimacy that may be real or totally false. Be careful!

No new pics, goes on n off for months. Whoever he really is it's not going anywhere. Texting is enjoyable but after a bit you two stop and you've never met or talked or Skyped. I'd just be soooo curious to know what the person looks like live on skype just to see what's up, but I think you should just let it go. You're picky and he fits, yes because he's a chameleon he's made himself the guy you like. Imagine in these months how many other women he's chatted/texted with, he is probably perfect for them too.

I met my girlfriend on a dating site. We Skyped immediately, to reassure her I am real -- since the majority of the photos I put up were professional and I didn't want to be accused of being fake. I think when it comes to online dating, you need something such as Skype to put your doubts to rest, if they exist.

I cried my heart out. I told myself never again will I fall for someone I never met.

I would tell everyone to video chat. It is also just best to meet someone face to face.

Even on just a more serious friendship bases, I offer to share a Skype, just to offer some reassurance to investing time with a person you are comfortable sharing with. Unless I really feel like I know someone, I will keep to a cordial fellowship in sharing. Many people are fine with that and seek no more than support and giving support.
