In other words. It's human nature to label the other person the one with the problem. Darn it, if people would just do and be who we want them to be! lol
I'd say, in general, it IS possible for a person to change a negative habit/tendency if:
1) THEY want to (not if someone else wants it for them or tries to force them)
2) they put in the work (usually some sort of counseling, behavior change, restructuring of routine or something, that sort of thing)
3) it becomes part of their lifestyle
But change is hard, and in general, people who don't truly want to change and/or aren't committed to doing anything differently won't really change.
But I'd have to first question, as others said, what do you mean by "avoidant tendencies?" He might just have a different point of view from you, and it might not really be something he needs to change, could just be a difference of opinions, maybe a "agree to disagree" or "go our separate ways" sort of thing?
The answer is yes, slowly, as they grow and learn. However, there are secure partners available. The universe is abundant someone told me.
If you are Anxious, run for your life, I was stuck in an anxious avoidant trap for 15 years.
If HE has acknowledged it and believes he has a problem and wants to change, I think it's possible.
I tried to find help/answers and found articles saying that unhealthy attachment styles are fixable with plenty of therapy, a genuine desire to change and with support.
I noticed in myself, I tended to meet and get involved in destructive involvements, 1 involvement I could blame someone else, but multiples meant I had to look for what was in me...
If two people have issues, yet are working towards a goal, you are lucky...
