Hi Everyone...its been some time since I last contributed to the message board. I have been on Methimazole since February and my levels have normalized. I was initially diagnosed with Graves, but since then, my endo said its sub acute hyperthyroidism. I go for routine check-ups with the endo, and he says it looks like I am on the right path. I started out on a dosage of 10mg per day in Feb, 5 mg a day in late March and when I saw my endo toward the end of May he said my levels were a little hypo so i should cut down to 5 mgs every other day (of course I am splitting that dosage and taking 2.5 mgs everyday). I am sorry, but I don't have any of my lab information.
I felt great up until this past week, and even then, no symptoms of going hyper. I never had them to begin with and all of this was caught by a routine blood work physical.
I have noticed a soft swelling above my collar bone, on my left side. It is puffy and swollen to the touch and not hard . It starts about 1/2 inch above the collar bone on the left side base of my neck and goes almost to the muscle of my shoulder. I would say its about a 4 inch area that is puffy, but does not hurt. I am really scared as to what this could be, because I know that area is filled with lymh nodes.
Any suggestions would be helpful. i have had this swelling for about 3 weeks now, and just placed a call to my endo. i am waiting to hear back. Have any of you ever experienced this problem? I am hoping that it is just thyroid related, and not my lymph nodes.

So sorry you have problems like this. I am not sure what it is for you and don't want to guess since I have never had this problem.
See if your Free T3 and Free T4 is off, either hypO or hypER and not in the mid ranges, at least for you.
Ummm...maybe you might want to find out your WBC and see if it is off?
Have your doctor order and ultrasound and see what it is in the area you mentioned?

My friend and fiannce both felt the area and think its muscle realated, but I don't think there is really a muscle there. It sort of starts in the hollow area right above the collar bone.
Nonetheless, thank you for the reply! I will keep you posted.
I will let you all know what ends up happening. Please cross your fingers for me so that these test results come back clean and clear. At this point, i would hope that it is my thyroid as the worst case scenario.

I can never be sure now a days since being diagnosed with Graves, but I am relieved that its just a little extra swelling and nothing serious.

I sleep on my sides, and it feels like I'm choking. The mass feels soft sometimes, but other times it's hard and more pronounced. Doctor thinks it's a "fat deposit" and I have ultrasound in a couple days. I'm always tired and have no energy.
Had imaging of area to ensure no lymph involvement. I don't understand how the swelling would increase & decrease in a day (sometimes) & be "fat". It also responds to antihistamines. If I take them regularly, the swelling will decrease. So odd. So far....none of my doctors have a good answer. Because it doesn't seem like a problem, it gets consistently dismissed.
My friend had several thyroid nodules and they told her to have the thyroid removed...
When they send them to pathology , they were ALL benign ... :-/
