Hi All!
Have any of you experienced digestion problems with Graves? I think I may have low stomach acid (hypohyrochloria). My fingernails have split and flaked, and I have dyspepsia and constipation.foord just seems to sit in my gut for ages. I have had dyspepsia before but never like this or combined with constipation for this long. I came out of remission in August 2013 with a T4 of 45.4 & TSH 0.03 (UK ref range. T4 10 to 23; TSH 0.40 to 5.00) I went back on Carbimazole, 20mg, then down to 10mg by January this year when my T4 dropped to 14.6, TSH 0.03. A further test on 12th Feb showed that my T4 had gone down to 11.00 and my TSH was 0.21. That seemed to coincide with the digestion problems. My GP just kept pushing laxatives and increasing the dose; this just made me feel sick and didn't seem to help much. I have been treating myself with re-acidifying foods, such as saurkraut, raw cider vinegar, pineapple, raw honey, live yoghurt etc. I have reduced the carbimazole to 5mg a day over two doses.
I would be grateful if anyone has anything to add/share.

Why not make further dose adjustments to reduce the CBZ taken to get your Free Ts to come up? Discuss that with the doctor...

If I'm hyper, I find I digest fast and am starving and eat a lot and lose weight
When I spoke to my endo I did mention that my T4 was below the level at which I felt well, but because I am 'chemically euthyroid' she didn't really take on board what I was saying. She has still referred me to Gastro for (in my opinion) Unnecessary tests. Thank God for this site!
