Grandparents Raising Children Support Group
This community is dedicated to grandparents who are the primary caregivers of their grandchildren. In cases where the parents are not willing or able to provide adequate care for their children, grandparents may take on the role of primary caregivers. Join the support group to find support, share your experience, and get advice from other members.

This is has been around for a while. I keep a copy on my wall and when I need a gentle reminder I refer to it. Certainly not all grandparents come by custody of their grandchildren due to drugs and alcohol, mental illness etc, but probably most are. My biggest emotional struggles are with the loss, and letting go of my adult child.
Letting Go
Letting go does not mean to stop caring.
it means I can't do it for someone else.
Letting go is not to cut myself off,
it is the realization I can't control another.
Letting go is not to enable;
but to allow learning from natural consequences.
Letting go is to admit powerlessness;
which means the outcome is not in my hands.
Letting go is not to try to change or blame another;
it is to make the most of myself.
Letting go is not to care for;
but to care about.
Letting go is not to fix;
but to be supportive.
Letting go is not to judge;
but to allow another to be a human being.
Letting go is not to be in the middle arranging the outcome,
but to allow others to affect their own destinies.
Letting go is not to be protective;
it's to permit another to face reality.
Letting go is not to deny;
but to accept.
Letting go is not to nag, scold, or argue;
but instead to search out my own shortcomings and correct them.
Letting go is not to adjust everything to my own desires;
but to take each day as it comes and cherish myself in it.
Letting go is not to criticize and regulate anybody;
but to try to become what I dream I can be.
Letting go is not to regret the past;
but to grow and live for the future.
Letting go is to fear less and live more.

Your are welcome fortress, if this book helps, pass it forward. It has really good advise and the authors own experiences are enlightening. She is a practicing therapist helping others, hopefully those on this site can find the time in their busy schedules to read.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
