GERD & Heartburn Support Group
Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) is defined as chronic symptoms or mucosal damage produced by the abnormal reflux of gastric contents into the esophagus. This is commonly due to transient or permanent changes in the barrier between the esophagus and the stomach. If you are afflicted with GERD or heartburn, join the group and find support.

I was told I have dyspepsia by my GI doctor. GI doc gave me 40mg Prilosec that I've been on for a month now. I also take Pepcid AC 20mg often, mostly once in the evening if I have burning. I have been eating pretty bland since my GI doc didn't help with any diet questions, he just said "no spicy or acidic foods." ... thanks, doc!!
Anyway, I have been eating lots of carbs :/
ie: plain bagel/toast with little butter, peanut butter, bananas, romaine lettuce, plain chicken, asparagus, white and brown rice, carrots, crackers, tons of water including water with high pH (9.5pH water from Whole Foods), and the occasional unsweetened black iced tea.
I have a follow up with my GI next week but in the mean time, I have questions! Like, I don't know if my issues are exactly caused by acidic things or caffeine. I honestly think it's acidic food/drinks because I used to eat a lot of acidic things. My doctor told me it’s probably because of the amount of ibuprofen I used to take.
I've been off soda (which I used to drink daily) and off coffee (which I drank about 1-2x a week) for 2 months exactly! All I have been drinking since I started this diet in June is water and more recently, iced black tea that is unsweetened. I keep a food journal and some days I get the burning feeling after eating (even when it’s a banana with PB on toast, or white rice). And then there are days where I will be without any burning when I don't eat as good. So I am just confused. Does the acid take a while to have any affects? Because the pattern is just throwing me for a loop here.
Another question: I miss drinking beverages with flavor so much, which is why I started drinking iced tea that is unsweetened (from starbucks or dunkin donuts). Is iced tea ok to drink? Does it matter if it's black or green? Will it help if I dilute it some with high alkaline water? Is high alkaline water even OK to drink regularly because when I look for gerd remedies I never see it on the list. Please someone help.

I need some plot development ideas for a book I'm writing. Here's the lead in:------@1630 she texted me, asking for gas money. "Are u at work? I have to work in a couple hours I don't have any gas barely I was wondering if u had 20$ by chance haven't been able to get any massages in I'm sorry to ask was just seeing"She agreed to meet me at the townhouse @1730. I asked her to call me before...
Also, try eating raw peanuts instead of peanut butter. I don't know whether to blame preservatives or the sweeteners, but peanut butter usually causes trouble, while raw or fresh-roasted peanuts don't.
Good luck. Let us know if you learn anything.
