Well im not all the way out, I am only out to Friends, and some family, but most of my family doesnt know im gay. Ill tell them when im ready, but i know they wont accept it,becuz they already dont accept another family member who is also gay.
i came out of the closet to my friends when i was in the 8th grade. they all were like we know lol anyway i didnt lose any of them they were really supportive and all. i came out to my mom as bi-curious when i was 11 i she almost beat the shit out of me. last week i came out to her as gay and she didnt hit me but she sat me down and we talked forever about how its a sin and ive lost my path too god. then she asked me if i ever did anything and i lied cause i knew she would get angry. she is in denial right know and keeps on talking to me about preparing me for marriage and how she cant wait until i get a boyfriend. its annoying but whatever. and she listened into one of my phone conversations with my friend who was trying to set me up with her sister. she told me that i should hang up and tell my friends im not interested in girls. im also out to my grandparents and surprisingly they say its okay but they think its a phase. and ive also came out to one of my aunts and she was like if someone cant see that your gay there blind lol i love her she is really accepting of me.
wow, you guys are all so brave!!
i was sobbing, and after confusing my mum for several minutes, i blurted out "i dont like boys, mum. i like girls!"
mum said "yeah, i know."
my imediate family knows, all my friends know, and most of my school knows. it's my extended family that doesnt know. im terrified to tell them. i think my dad's side will be shocked and a little confused at first, but cool with it after a while. my mum's side will freak out. im scared to tell them. but knowing that you guys came out to unaccepting people and made it through stronger and braver gives me hope.
I'm out to my best friend, and a couple of other people. In my high school, the gay kids are harassed pretty badly. My parents don't know...maybe because I am ashamed of who I am, but more likely that I am afraid of how they'll react. My mom is a big Christian and is very against being gay, and said that if any of her children were bi or gay that they wouldn't be allowed over anyone's house. That we'd go to school and then go to work but nothing else. I've tried subtle hints to let them know how I feel towards girls, constantly holding hands with my ex girlfriend, her kissing me in front of them (on the cheek around them). They're either oblivious, idiots or know and are waiting for me to come to terms with who I am and then tell me. I'm not even comfortable with who I am, because I was raised in the church and still go, being with the same gender they say is wrong and a sin and disgusting. So my closet is open and my toes are over the line but I'm not ready to tell the world yet.
im out to most people. my family have known for a while, my mum said she know befor i did..lol..(bless her) i told my twin sister about 3 years ago. i only told my dad 2weeks ago. i did find it very hard tho.
My coming out to my parents was slightly difficult, but yeah Im out to most people who ask, its not something i throw out there. But it was scary to tell my parents. I remember writing this big long note to my mom about my feelings and she read it after she came home from work with just me and her in her room. She seemed a little stiff, like she couldnt believe what she was reading but she just hugged me and told me that she would love me no matter what and that i should have told her when i first had feelings towards guys. My dad on the other hand flipped when she tried to tell him and he bursted into my room at around 10 and started yelling. My sister wasnt home and my brother already knew, I dont know how and he wont tell me he just said that he's always knew and it was perfectly fine with him. I told a few of my closest friends and they all were really supportive. Most of them even came out to me which was pretty cool. My girlfriend at the time was fine with it, we seperated and we've been best friends ever since. Most people at my old school knew, but now that ive transferred away from everone else its kind of weird. i dont know how they will react so i've told a few people and ive made a new lesbian friend. But anyways, I've been out for about three years, since 8th grade. My dad still says im str8t but my mom is really cool with it now.
im out to my friends: marisa, felix, and keith, my aunt, my grandmother, my sister, and my dad. My dad didnt really did want that to happen, but hey you know, things happen
I haven't told any one yet because to scared to I know my mum won't take that bad and my friends proberly won't mind I'm just to scared tho that the problem every time I go to tell some one I chiechen out
i told my 2 closest friends and only 1 belived me so im scared to tell any one else and thisrob18 is right bc when i asked my friend if he belived me an he said yes an that he would always be there for me bc thats wat friends are for
I am in the same situation. Do you want to come out to them? The way I think of it is that if you come out to them and they don't accept them, then it kinda makes it better in a way. You won't be acting to be someone else around them, you'll know that they weren't really there for you. It will be hard yes, but its worth it to be yourself.
jlynneW: It depends on where you live. I grew up in the south, in the bible belt, so most of my teachers when I was younger turned the other way and ignored the slurs and comments. I ended up transferring to another school where I was more accepted.
Now I live up north, and it is generally more accepted where I live. Before I left home, though, I started a GSA group at my college. High schools have those too now. Local PFLAG chapters can help with info, and you can talk to your school's administration about getting some pamphlets and things from them. If you really wanted to get involved, you can be the advisor to your school's GSA- if there isn't one, start one!
If you suspect that your daughter is gay- let her come out to you. Continue to be supportive, and she'll get there eventually. She can't be pushed into coming out.

As far as the question goes, yes, I am out. I've been out to my family for five years now, since my Senior year of high school- although I had realized long before that I was gay. I've been out for so long I can't imagine being in the closet anymore. It took a while for my family to accept it, but things have gotten better with time. I am engaged, and we're currently waiting for legislation to pass in our state so we can get married.
