Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
It would take my breath away & made my breathing very shallow too. This even lead to hyperventilation, anxiety-like symptoms and racing heartbeat etc.
In fact these were the first symptoms that made me go to the Dr - felt like a heart/chest issue, but turned out to be gastritis.
I wanted to tell you littlemart that my sliding hernia will cause the feeling your describing. Now that my tummy is inflamed due to gastritis, it sets off my hernia - so it's a double whammy!
A hiatal can slide up under your diaphragm giving you that awful sensation of breathlessness and/or not being able to fully take a deep breath. There are youtube videos for massaging it back down, and they DO work.
Hope this helps some! Just knowing your not alone and have support, helps so much.. :)
Take care!

And Vickie is sounds the same to me. Do you feel the sudden rush up the middle of your chest... like a pressure and then it takes your breath away for a second? Makes you think it's your heart. Then the panic sets in and makes it worse. Also, there are times that all I have to do is walk across the room or wash my hands and I feel like my heart rate is increased enough to be uncomfortable. Not bad... and it comes right back down.. but... scary. And the exhaustion is awful. Thanks again

Mine is a little more subtle. It just kinda of comes on and then I will have breathing issues for about a week and then it well just stop! I did have a gastro doc tell me he thought it was acid reflux! who knows!
Hope your doing okay today!
Vicki.
I will appreciate your advice guys.. Thanks!
At one point my breathing was very shallow. I would draw in very small breaths.
My gastritis seemed different than everyone else, I would get very dizzy all the time and very very sick but i didn't have pain. My whole region from stomach to ..my nether regions was sore and achy though. Even holding in my pee a very little bit caused a lot of discomfort.
Luckily since then I have gotten somewhat better. It's been a year now since I got this awful curse on my life. Luckily though now I am able to go outside and work in the garden (which is not very good this year because I was so sick in spring) and mow the lawn and take care of the chickens etc. But I still cannot eat much and have lost over 30 pounds.
I would really like to eat a sandwhich or a hamburger soon :(. my family is telling me all the time that i look sick and that they are worried.
One last though to my long message.. How is it that there is so much advancement in medicine but somehow in this area there is nothing that can be done? The doctors I have seen are absolute idiots and can do nothing more than give me nexium. You'd think there would be a better treatment because this is awful!
I also sometimes get tightness in the chest. I went to the doctor and did an EKG, but my heart was fine.
I wish I was diagnosed earlier and given the proper diet to follow. I am so glad that I found this forum. I know that my condition can be treated, and I am not as stressed out any more.
Today i have a lot of dizziness again and lightheadedness as well. its very annoying as i work on the computer most of the day. but i can only handle a little at a time now.
this past week my dizziness had gone down quite a bit and was becoming more rare, then saturday i went to the parade with my brother and his wife, and to the petting zoo with my niece after. being on my feet so long had my stomach just sore and cramped up and now i'm paying for it. i have this pressure right by my eyes in my head that feels like a headache coming on but then turns into dizziness. and i get this weird feeling through my arms and hands like a sort of weakness and tingling. feels like my muscles are just giving out. I used to work out a lot and now im a stringbean! ughhh. in winter it was worse, my feet and legs were very easily bothered by the cold and actually became painful at times, my entire body was always cold and i had the house pretty hot already. i really hope i am at least somewhat better for this winter.
Sometimes it's hard to figure out what food is causing it. But once I eliminate it, the symptoms disappear.
I also feel cold all the time, and I keep the temperature in my room high. I think it's because I lost so much weight. Also, my diet is pretty restricted and I am not getting enough vitamins. Maybe that's why I feel so weak and cold.
I tried taking Ensure meal supplement, and I felt great and energetic for the first few days, but sadly I had to stop taking it due to stomach troubles.
I feel much better since going on a bland diet, but I still have good days and bad days. At least I have some comfort knowing that this is temporary and that my stomach will eventually heal. However, I know that I will always have to avoid irritating foods so that the gastritis doesn't come back. I hope my story helps you better understand this condition.
