Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
My doctor thought for sure I had h-pylori, but turns out I didn't. Had the stool test done twice, once after stopping my PPI and two EGD's. So it's possible you have h-pylori and the nexium is causing a false negative.
The other possibility is the nexium isn't working. I was on dexilant for almost 5 months and after a follow-up EGD, my stomach Ph level was a 1. Doctor said I should have been more alkaline, preferably around a 5. I started taking 40mg of protonix twice a day, which definitely helps, but I still have symptoms here and there. But better than when I was last fall/winter when I was on dexilant.
The hardest part is your diet. I just recently found out the water I've been drinking is too acidic, so I'm now only drinking alkaline water. I found last month that eggs and meat are problematic. Basically all I'm eating now is skinless baked potatoes, baked carrots, boiled spinach, boiled broccoli, gluten free oatmeal with cinnamon, gluten free pancakes without syrup, gluten free animal crackers (just a snack I keep with me in my backpack if I get hungry away from home) and camomile tea with cinnamon. My best advice is try an elimination diet. I found out last fall that any foods with high sodium or salt directly on it caused symptoms along bananas and applesauce.
