Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
Does eating when you wake up in that state help?
I now bought slippery elm and I'm giving that a try... I hope this makes a difference.
Zinc carnosine! Please read the reviews of this wonderful supplement by hundreds of users on Amazon! Healed my gastritis in 3 weeks! I've suffered for over 2 years with gastritis and all my doctors could do is give me diets, PPIs and Zantac. No more! I use zinc carnosine and I am pain free! Shame on doctors for not learning nor sharing this information to suffering patients. I hope it helps you like it helped me. I plan to stay on this supplement for the rest of my life. I quit ppi immediately but stayed on Zantac 150mg twice a day PLUS took 2 zinc carnosines after breakfast and 2 before bed. I felt so much better after only 6 days and I'm pain free at only 3 weeks! I'm about to stop Zantac altogether. I hope this helps you as it has saved my life!
I have gastritis but no h pylori. However I have had frequent problems with going to bed feeling ok and then I wake up usually between 2-4am with terrible nausea, gas, & stomach pain. I usually feel like I am going to vomit but never do. It usually takes me at least 2 hours to get back to sleep. Usually sipping some ginger ale and laying propped up helps me in the moment.
When I was on ranitidine 2x a day I didn't have this issue. However I got some negative side effects and the GI dr put me on protonix 4 weeks ago. My night issues have come back so she just yesterday switched my dose to before dinner instead of before breakfast to see if I get some relief. I've also heard some people take a ppi in the am and an h2 blocker in the in the PM. Talk to your doctor- maybe one of those options would work for you. I'm not sure if it's working for me yet or not. Time will tell
Are you doing one or two doses? Are you taking them am or pm? Moving my dose to PM did help me a little- I still got nauseous in the middle of the night but not as bad. Unfortunately the PM dose caused my daytime aching to return which has been gone for about a week. My doctor told me that I could double up- do protonix am & pm- or do protonix am and zantac pm. I'm going to try zantac pm first. Zantac has helped me in the past, but does give me some side effects. If it doesn't work, she said she sometimes has people do protonix am & pm Plus zantac at bedtime. I'd rather not do that but will if I have to. I have been dealing with this for 6 months and I need it to be over.
Hope the protonix works for you. If you feel like it- let me know how it goes for you!
I am actually taking some probiotics but I don't see much difference. On the other hand, I'm taking slippery elm and DGL and I think that's helping me. I also started taking a zinc carnosine suplement last night, but that should take some time before I can see any effects.
Last night I took half the amount of antiacids and I woke up around 4 with what really felt like hunger. I wonder if eating early and not so much ends up making me hungry in the middle of the night, which ends up giving me some slight pain. I'm going to try eating something light like a small banana about half an hour before bed and see how it goes.
I'm basically trying everything I can, I'm fed up with this situation and I need to get better. If I do find some combination of things that makes me feel better, I'll update here. Dealing with this myself has been awful and if I'd love it if I could provide some advice that could help someone else.
I woke up a few times along the night but *none of them* with pain. When I reached my usual wake up time, I could start feeling that hunger/slight pain so I'm actually thinking my problem might have been mostly hunger. I'll keep this schedule for a few days but it seems promising.
