Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
Yes I was on the meds for a good few months, started with omeprazole then zantak and lansaprozole..all of which made me feel terrible. The main side effects were real bad indigestion..felt like a huge elastic band around me getting tighter....and the feeling of a hard rock in my stomach...also real bad depression,I came off them cold turkey!! not fun...but my only symtoms now are the central burn/ache above belly button...but it always radiates to my back!! I will find out exactly whats going on hopefully monday..I don't think I can get carafate or sucrafate here in the UK but will defo ask my GP. Just trying to keep on a bland diet at the moment...boring!!...I also feel afraid to go too far...incase I feel unwell..I was so different last year..used to go all around the country watching bands!!...can't at the moment.. Praying for us all to heal. :)
Anyway, after seeing my G.I. two months ago, he had me do a breath test (at home), the test came back negative for what he was initially looking for but the test came back showing I have SIBO - Small intestine bacterial overgrowth.
You should really look into it. It makes sense for all the pains we've been dealing with.
Just thought I'd share and hopefully help someone.
Best of luck!
Figured I would provide an update. I have been progressively getting better, but still have periodic minor burning and discomfort. I had my endoscopy yesterday which confirmed spotty mild gastritis, meaning in multiple areas and probably because I have been healing over the last 45 days. They also spotted an Esophageal Hiatal Hernia, which should self heal as well. All of the anxiety that comes with Gastritis and thinking that its worse, is better because of the knowledge - but silly because I had to spend $$$ to tell me that... Anyway... Waiting on biopsies to check for bacterial. Still eating healthy, down 25lbs, but I have introduced a little more variety and flavor to the healthy diet. Keep on going everyone!
