Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
You have to take charge of your own health.
I just find it so bizarre when people are calling doctors idiots, when up until recently, most people knew nothing about the stomach and are just trashing people that have dedicated their life to it.
PPI's and H2's work MUCH quicker and when you work full time, not every has the time to do an elimination diet to determine triggers. For the vast majority, PPI's will be a huge benefit and for a lot of people the rebound period is miniscule.
And btw, as a person with severe eosinophilic esophagitis at a young age that isn't correlated to diet, I have to take PPI's unless I want to be diagnosed with Barrett's before the age of 30.
However, the first time i went to a gi doctor, no test no nothing stomach pain = omeprazole ? Months later...turns out i had a bad gallbladder which resolved itself overtime.
We are not saying all doctors are incompetent only GI doctors and most doctors when it comes to deal with GI Issues. The reason? Not their fault...I am sure they are smart, the school's are incompetent tons of bias in the food industry, gazillion dollar industry after all.
Check this out:
"Almost a quarter of British people suffering from gluten intolerance visited their doctor for 11 years or more before getting a proper diagnosis, research shows." That is not only in britain is worldwide. The reasons:
1. Doctors don't know much about GI issues, the school's are incompetent therefore theyre dumb
2. Once tested as Celiac they won't be tested again
3. The test most of the time is useless, there's an even better test today but unfortunately is not affiliated to the "industry" so you gotta do it on your own
4. Doctors are dumb and do not interpret the results well
There are more studies like that on how doctors on GI Issues are very incompetent ! very ! Not all but most of them.
It is ok to be emotional by the way after what you have been through prayinglots.
Some people like Fusion have to take a PPI forever. This situation is different. Most people on this site do not have what fusion has. I am not arguing taking a PPI or not to take a PPI. I also feel that many doctors only go by what is in the textbooks and dont look outside the box and some dont take the time to do what they need to do for the patient as we have seen over and over again on this site.
my GI told me to not worry about the silent reflux type symptoms. That is what I used to get. After a year and a half of self education I learned it can be as dangerous as typical heartburn is. My regular GP was better with this than the GI was. The GI was too laid back again in my opinion.
I also am pretty skeptical and do not trust doctors to take care of my well being completely. I am in charge of my own body and I do feel you have to question doctors advice regularly.
Probably I didn't say that before but I live in Turkey and we already have healthy diet traditionally: Mediterrean diet, which means we (lots of Turkish ppl) eat lots of veggies, fruits, whole grains, poultry, yogurt & goat cheese & kefir and very little to no meat. I rarely eat junk. I know most of American ppl eat junk/trashy foods on their breakfast, lunch and dinner. We don't. At least most of us.
Also I don't smoke and don't drink alcohol (I drank my last beer 2 years ago lol)
As a result, I already have healthy lifestyle. Training x3 times a week etc. But I have anxiety/panic attacks history.
GI docs keep saying me that your mild gastritis cannot cause persistent nausea. Almost all ppl have mild gastritis and you absolutely don't need any diet.
When I get busy, I rarely feel nauseous.
You guys keep saying you need diet. And docs keep saying absolutely no need of it, cause your gastritis is not much thing. You have to be calm/relax.
This is why I'm confused a lot.
I think I was speaking too much out of personal experience as well as I tried all the diets and stuff, being really strict and all and ended up with gastritis. Since I took that pill, I've been doing much better.
Good luck to you all.
One of GI doc that I met before said that reflux sufferer needs low-acid diet, but no need of it for gastritis or ulcer. Your story is about esophagus/reflux. My esophagus is not damaged. I just have mild inflammation in my antrum. And it seems every docs that I met before don't care about this.
It's live and learn at the end with gastritis and that's what sucks. Just go right ahead if you want, we'll still be here to help you when you come back screaming in pain and begging for help. We've all been there.
Let me tell you something.
That was 2 months ago. I was going to birthday party with my girlfriend. We were in bus. Was feeling nauseous. Almost vomit. I said that to myself, "I think I have to go back my home, I feel really bad" But I remember that when I surrounded by many friends, lots of laugh and fun. My harsh nausea disappeared.
How do you explain it from "gastritis perspective"?
By the way, I'm not against you. I'm just thinking. I have lots of examples like this. I cannot explain this thing from gastritis perspective.
