I wanted the sleeve but my insurance would not pay for it. has the bypass a year ago and could nit be happier. one thing about the bypass is if you have problems it can be reversed but the sleeve removes part of the stomach so it can't be put back

Thank you for answering my post. I am glad that things worked out good for you with the bypass truly it does give me hope. I guess until I have a real sit down with the surgeon I will be a little apprehensive. I am sooooooooooo looking forward to the lifestyle change, but I wish my nerves would take some time off and settle down. LOL. Oh I didn't know they could reverse the bypass (not that I would want it done) but it's good to know. I have also heard that some people have to go back for a second surgery with the bypass but its rare.

I guess if I am to be honest I don't have a lot of support around me just my husband and he is suffering with alot of pain and I kind of feel selfish with having to rely solely on him to care for me after the surgery. I just really want this because like my husband my discomfort with the weight is too much to bear anymore. I just want my quality of life back and be able to enjoy my children and grandchildren

I went into this thinking I wanted the sleeve but after discussing things with the surgeon I had bypass. It is more restrictive and was the best choice for me. I had mine 10/9, I'm down 60 pounds and overall I feel great. Don't feel guilty for needing your husbands help. Once you start loosing you'll be able to have more energy and feel better and will be more healthy. I've never had buyers remorse, my only regret is I didn't do this sooner. Do your research and go to your appt. loaded with information and questions, then make your decision with your surgeon. Good luck and welcome to the group.

I am so glad i joined this group because it is so much easier to get feedback from people who have walked the mile before me as opposed to the negative/positive responses from those who really don't know. I mean whewww, I can't think of how many times I've heard why are you doing this? And it usually from the same people who ridicule you behind your back for being obese in the first place. LOL. I am relieved that once I've had the surgery I have some where to log into and talk to those who went before me. I will let you all know when I am schedule and I thank you in advance for your support.

I truly can't wait until I can take some after photos. Mind you, I still haven't gotten the guts to take the before one yet, goofy me I know but I've never really done full body shots before. I guess I need to man up and take one now so I can see the difference once I start to drop the weight.

Hello welcome :-) I'm shyanne :-) years ago I wanted lap band. I'm glad I didn't get it done then. When I started thinking about weight loss surgery again this time last year I decided on gastric bypass. I had made my way to 360 pounds and I knew it would be the surgery to get the weight off I needed and a little quicker then sleeve. I also wanted that extra restriction and fear of dumping from bypass. I had my surgery May 7th. I had a few hiccups in the road right after surgery but once I started feeling good I felt GREAT :-) Now I'm 230lbs.

Thank you shyanne its good to hear that you are pleased with your choice of surgery options with the bypass. I think the faster weight loss is what my surgeon wants for me as well. I am beginning to see it as the best way to go although my fears are real in regards to it. I know that as time gets closer the fear will ease - a part of me wishes the surgery was tomorrow so i'd have no more time to think and could just get it over with lol

Hello.. I had the gastric sleeve done July 24 2012.. And i personally could not be any more happier with my results of a 65 pound weight loss since then. I went from 2 blood preassure pills 2times a day everyday to now 1pill 1 time everyother day. From a size 18/20 to now a 14/16. I have months more to go with weight loss but so far its been great. Inside and out.. Do some research. I am sure you will find the right one for you!!!

I chose bypass when my doctor told me that the sleeve averages 50-60% of excess weight lost while the bypass was 70-80% lost. I wanted what he called the "gold standard" in weight loss surgery.

This doctor has also been doing the sleeve for years. He started performing bariatric surgery in 1999 and founded the bariatric surgery programs at 2 hospitals in 2002, so I figure he's been calculating his own metrics on the success of both surgery types.

Oh, just to add that I had bypass surgery on Nov. 6th with a starting weight of 292. This morning I weighed 240. I am SO happy with my choice.

I had originally wanted the sleeve for the reasoning of not wanting my plumbing rearranged. My insurance would not cover it at the time. I had Rny gastric bypass and it was definately the right choice for me. The necessity of not being able to digest high fat or sugar containing foods has kept me on the straight and narrow. The few times I tested it I dumped the following day and was not anxious to go there again anytime soon. I am very happy with my choice and have lost 123lbs and countless inches. I am 18 mos out and for the last few month have been wobbling up and down 3 lbs. I would like to lose a few more and will reboot after the holidays. Do your research and decide with the help of your surgical team what fits your lifestyle the best. There are a few on here that have had the sleeve with very good results. d

I plan to have an indept conversation with my surgeon after the holidays because i need to know for sure what is best for me. I am pleased to say that the positive results of most bypass surgeries thus far have been surprisingly high and that helps me ready my mind in case they say go with the bypass - the one thing i have to do is trust the surgeon and the team to know whats best for me.

Hi I did a lot of research and when I started I wanted to get the lap band. After much research I ended up getting a bypass. I got it done in June and have lost 85 pounds. Like some of the others I ended up choosing it because of the success rate. I have about 15 more pounds to go to get to my goal weight. You can't go wrong with what ever one you go with you just got to go with what is right for you. I ended up getting the book Weight Loss for Dummies. It will help you a lot and educate you on all of the surgeries. Good Luck!!

I thought I would get the lap band. But after researching this and talking with my surgeon, I went with RNY. I am very happy with the results, although I am a slower loser than many. Still more progress than I could make on my own. I feel great five months out and have fantastic energy.

I wish you well in your choice. Ask the doctor as many questions as you can think of, this is a big decision.
