Hi Everyone, They say that no question is a silly one so I have one I need to ask. When I first started considering the surgery I wanted to do the gastric sleeve - if it is not asking too much can you please share with me what surgery you had, why you or your doctor made that choice and how you feel your choice was the best one for you verses the others. Right now all I am being told is that you loose more weight with the actual bipass surgery as oppose to the sleeve. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME - I am meeting with my doctor soon and I need to make sure I am okay with the doctors recommendation because to be honest, she has not told me why to my satisfaction that the bipass is the best way to go.

Again thank you Navywife and Silky for your responses. I have truly turned this decision over to the Lord and asked him to provide me with the vision I need for my life - I trust that between the surgical team and myself we will make the best decision as to what will work well for me. I am just concerned with having such a small stomach with the bypass - I can't imagine having a stomach the size of an egg and what tremendous changes it will mean for me - but i am more hopeful now than i was before that like many of you, I will be able to handle it.

BTW: Some posters have said RNY is not reversible. That is false.

RNY Gastric Bypass gets it's name from the doctor who invented it (Roux) and the Y formation of your stomach/intestines afterwards. RNY maintains the portion of your stomach that is "disconnected" in your abdomen and it feeds gastric juices into your intestines and your pouch feeds the food and it forms a "Y". If the disconnected stomach isn't maintained, it's a different type of gastric bypass - not RNY.

RNY can be reversed. My doctor has performed reversals of other doctors' work. It is either called a "reversal" or a "takedown". Many bariatric surgeons are not trained in reversals so it's more difficult to find, and that leads some to say it is not reversible - just because THEY don't know how to do it.

Anestacia you are awesome thank you for all your help. I will watch the videos because I am curious despite the fact that I've been advised not to. I've already watched the actual bypass surgery being performed so why not.
