Got the sf popsicles, the sf water flavoring, the chicken broth, the spicy V-8 juice, the protein powder and the multivitamins. So long diabetes meds and here I go!

Good luck... They had me on Carnation Instant Breakfast and protein shakes for that two weeks once you make it past day three the feelings of wanting to hurt someone for a saltine cracker subsides.. Hehe. Good luck!

Just a question. How if ones diabetic can you do a liquid diet and still get what is needed to keep sugars regulated!!!?? I'm not a diabetic but have worked with people that are.

This was the toughest part for me. The 2 weeks on nothing but will power! But it is worth it!
I used sugar free Carnation Instant Breakfast before and after surgery as well as protein shots. I drank a lot od crystal lite and juice before surgery. It wasn't as bad as I expected. Good luck!

touckybear72, about stopping your diabetes meds - if you are doing your your liquid diet right, you are eating near zero carbs and sugars (other that artificial sugars), so for the most part you will not be triggering an insulin release after you eat. Insulin is released to process the sugars the carbs turn into essentially. So with the lack of sugar/carb intake, your blood sugars should stay relatively lower, so you most likely will not need insulin injections too, if you take it, or your blood sugar lowering meds like metformin or glyburide, etc.. It is recommended that you test your blood sugars 4-8 times per day during this. And let your primary care physician know ahead of time about your WLS and the all liquid diet and stopping your diabetes meds. Call them if your blood sugar goes above 200 or below 60 and follow their recommendations. The surgeons (some) recommend not taking the diabetes meds during this time so your blood sugar does not go to low with taking these blood sugar lowing types of medication while consuming no sugars/carbs.

Congrats, Jamie. It won't be long now. I was lucky - my dr. put me on a diet where I was allowed to have a light dinner every day along with 2 protein shakes. It was tough so I can only imagine how hard an all liquid diet would be.

Good luck to you! I am on day three pre-op. My issue is I cannot eat sugar-free items as aspartame is a migraine trigger for me. Does anyone have any other suggestions. This has been a huge challenge for me.

Can you guys tell me it gets better post-op?
