but this is getting old quick!
I had RNY 10/5/12. I was 46 yrs old and this was getting serious that unless I wanted to start making plans for my funeral, I needed help.
I've been overweight my entire life, obese since I was 25. I had started the process for weight loss surgery in December 2010. July 31, 2011 I had a heart attack. My cardio dr saved my life - 2 blockages over 95% in the LAD ~ it's known as the widowmaker. Most people don't survive it. Since I had no actual heart attack symptoms - hot weather and thought my asthma was acting up. Thankfully my primary Dr knows me and if I'm there - there's a problem. I'm stubborn - was off work 5 days and right back after the cath & stent. They called me for my surgery date 3 days later - but I was benched by my cardio dr for a year. I had to do what he said, cardiac rehab and then he would clear me for surgery. He told me I had someone looking out for me because had I had the RNY surgery before the heart attack - in all likely hood I would have died on the table.
I am still embarrassed to type that I topped the scale the day of surgery at 409 lbs. I'm 5' 9" and no one who looked at me believed that but trust me, that was the number. Today I'm FINALLY down to 289. 19 months and only 120 lbs upsets me a great deal. My surgeon says "we all lose differently" - "that a loss of 1 lb is still a loss" but UGH!!!! Between 10/5 and 2/5/13 I was down 45 lbs. and then it started to slow. I still do my protein, my water, no soda, no sweeteners, no carbs. I don't eat rice, bread, pasta - it makes me sick. We have fish at least 3 times a week - fry nothing, no coating, I only drink unsweetened decaf tea or herbal tea or water. I exercise though admittedly arthritis in my knee keeps me from doing more. I ride my exercise bike 10 miles a day, I do Wii dance, I walk when I'm able. I work 60 hr weeks at a stressful job that ends up with meals on the run so it's a few piecs of cheese here, some yogurt there. I'm averaging about ONE LB PER WEEK. Again - UGH!!!
Ideas - suggestions? Fellow slow losers who can share? I lost 1.5 lbs last week and I wanted to celebrate. :)
The clothes are getting bigger, people who don't see me all the time notice the change, but my mind just wants it NOW!

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
It sounds like you are doing things right..no white food, no sweeteners, getting your 70+ grams of protein a day. It sounds like you aren't eating lunch? I always keep a protein bar or 2 in my purse so I always have something nutritious to eat. Some research indicates getting 30 grams of protein first thing in the morning can jump-start your metabolism for the entire day.
Are you getting at least 8 hours of sleep a night? I didn't lose anything if I didn't get at least 8 hours of sleep. I'm guessing the sleep and the stress are contributing to your meltdown being slower than you'd like.
I get the "wanting it now" mindset. My loss only took 11 months and I broke down several times wanting that phase to be over!! Honestly, it is super-impressive you are sticking with it and are still losing consistently. Too many people turn to food when they get frustrated.
Hang in there! It is worth it!!

Otherwise, just keep at it! time will pass regardless and a pd down is a pd down... I know its frustrating!! But keep at it!
I also agree with JJ that adequate sleet is absolutely essential. For me, I need 8.5 to 9 hours a night. When I get less, I really feel it, and it can derail my weight loss.
Give yourself a pat on the back for all that you have accomplished and all that you are doing right. And keep at it. Ultimately, you'll overcome. :)
I do track calories and that may be some of it - I'm around 700 most days. My PCP actually suggested I up my daily intake but some days, as silly as it sounds having a weight issue - it's easier said than done.
I tend to eat on the go at work - mearning a bit or two here and another hour and bite or two there. I need to start "shopping for work meals" and things I can grab even if I don't have time to stop. I think I do this and when I get home I'm like ...."when did I eat?
Sleep is a HUGE issue for me. I've had chronic insomnia for 11 yrs. I NEVER get 8 hours. I consider it a blessing for 5 straight hours in one night. I know stress is a big part of it but I've been struggling with insomnia since my son passed away when he was 18 years old. I've tried every suggestion and trick in the book - I've just accepted I don't sleep well.
I'm coming to the conclusion that I may need the knee replacement in order to lose the rest of the weight. I had been holding off wanting to lose more weight to make the knee surgery successful.
Patience apparently is not one of my strong traits :) Losing a "whole" person does make me smile :)
((HUGS))
This may be one of those situations where medical intervention can help you sleep. I totally understand the insomnia thing. I've been there.
