Did not consider the sleeve. Thought about the lap-band. The decision came down to the fact that my biggest problem was appetite. GBS had the best results in curbing appetite and best long term results overall, based on the clinical research that I studied online.

Couldn't be happier with my decision.

I am getting GBS on Tuesday. I decided against the sleeve because there is no long term research on how effective the sleeve is over time. It is fairly new. Add to that, I am always hungry and GBS shows good results at curbing the appetite. Good Luck whatever you choose!

Well I never had the sleve but I had the Lab Band since 12/2009, I upgraded to the RNY 2/6/13. Some things that was never told to me was that with Lap Band you still feel hungry, and you have to get fills every so often, they sold it to me with the fact that your supossed to be able to eat what you want just in lesser quantity and hence the weight loss. It ended up that I could not get a lot of foods down no matter how well I chewed. Also you can cheat your band by eating mushy foods they go right through the band and you can eat as much as you want. I am not sure of the sleeve, but I do know that the RNY was it for me because I liked sugar, RNY makes it where I can't digest it anymore, also I can eat most anything as long as I get my protien in. I do know with some of the other surgerys you can no longer eat veggies, or the skin on beans will clog it your band or sleeve. In my opinion I went with the better option for me, My Doc asked me what my vices were when eating..eating too much, carbs, sugar, he asked me how much I intended to work out. After talking with him about it for a while I decided to upgrade to the RNY. The main thing is to figure out how each works, plug in your vices and see which will be best for your need. I too am trying to decide... one day I am thinking sleeve, the next RNY! Guess I'll get it figured out before I have surgery! LOL!

Just fyi that this question comes up often on the thread.... I know I posted the question about the same time someone else did... If I can find them, I'll bump them up! There were a lot of good 'shares' in them!

again i really cant offer an opinion regarding the sleeve....wasnt even availble 5 years ago when i had mine...all i know is RNY has been great for me...i feel like it really is good for malabsorbtion...which is the whole idea right??

The sleeve cannot be undone in case of severe reaction to the stomach surgery but the GBP can be reversed.

I went with the sleeve because I had vitamin deficiency issues BEFORE the surgery and our bariatric clinic said that if you already have vitamin deficiency issues the full Bypass might not be a good choice since vitamin absorbency issues tend to be a problem with some patients after the bypass surgery. And I liked the idea of not having to re-route my intestines. The only bad thing I heard about the sleeve is that it is not reversible - as they completely remove most of your stomach, where as in the bypass they just staple your stomach and the part you don't use is left inside you - so if you need to reverse the surgery you can.

I personally felt that the sleeve was the better option for me and was worth the risk of needing a reversal and not being able to get it. I don't plan on needing one :)

I though about the lap band until I went to a seminar and it was explained to me that the lap band wasn't very effective. I read about the sleeve but chose the RNY because of the double effect of the tiny pouch for a stomach and the shortened intestine for less absorbtion.
Also In an emergency situation the RNY can be reversed and I beleive I read that the sleeve cannot. Also the RNY is far more time tested and considered a very safe operation. Please excuse my typing and spelling! Can't do either tonight.

I chose the gbs because as my surgeon puts it, it is the gold standard in weight loss surgery. It is what everything else is measured against. It has the most research, longest history, and helps lose the most weight. Also, I was in favor of losing my appitite. Being hungry and not being able to eat......been doing that for my whole adult life, I call it dieting lol.

I also live 100 miles from my surgeon and didn't want to be going for adjustments to the band all the time.

There was no one more supportive of the Sleeve than I. In the long run, I have been disappointed for a number of reasons. My weight loss was over in one year. I was flawless on my program, hungry the whole time, yet I stopped losing 70 lbs short of the top of my range. The most surprising of all is the maintenance. At 3 years out, I am still eating 1100 cals and exercising an hour a day, to keep from gaining. I recommend the Bypass...

Went I thinking I wanted the sleeve but after discussing it with my surgeon decided on the RNY. Better weight loss statistics plus dumping will keep you honest for sure! I don't regret my decision as I've been blessed not to have complications.

I had the GBS. My doc said this one would work the best for me since I was a diebetic and had high blood pressure. My surgery was December 3rd and I am off all my meds now. I feel great.

Thank you all for your candor and honesty. I truly appreciate it. My final decision is coming soon and I've pretty much made the decision. I have high blood pressure and i am also borderline diabetic two major factors that i need to get rid of like yesterday according to my doctor. I am putting it in God's hands and trusting myself to make the best decision for me after my final consult with the dr. Be blessed everyone.

I also was told no long term history for sleeve.
GNY was the " Golden Level" for WLS
That is how I decided. If I'm gonna do it, going with best statistics.
Dr said actually phasing out lap-band in the future
Very happy for those with wonderful successes with all types ;);)
It was the right choice personally for me.
