overcome a lot. Me too.
Ready to shed the shell of fat I've been hiding in!!!!
Congrats!!!
Hope other Pre-ops see this
This is a bit late, but I was in the same boat as you when I woke up the day of my psych eval. I didn't want to reveal all my crustiness and darkness I had walked through as a child (also a SURVIVOR of rape/molestation) but it was an easy conversation.
Your comments are among my favorites because 1. you speak the truth 2. you speak from the heart and 3. I can feel in your words you are a mighty woman of God!
Do you know when your big day is? As for me, I have the back and forth jitters every now and then, and family can be a real hum-dinger with their own opinions and agendas, but coming on here and reading the good stuff and leaning on God helps tremendously to keep me focused.
Hope you are well! It shouldn't be long before you get those dancing shoes back on your feet!

When someone tries to keep me down I tend to land on my feet but tonight is rough someone I love very much just crushed my heart tremendously because as they put it "I've never seen you finish anything you start" and I guess that's something else I have to accept about myself because I've spent my entire life putting everybody else first. If something i wanted got to hard for someone else to manage I stopped and turned my back on my own dreams, so I guess I'm guilty as charged. That person also told me that I am on my own, the surgery, recovery and everything that goes with it, he will not be here. I am washed down in tears and hurt to the core and the enemy is trying to get in my head and tell me that I can't do this without his support and I'm fighting the urge to just say you know what, your right I can't.
But in my head i am screaming Tami you can not and you will not give up, I can't quit and I can't let one more person in my life hinder me from doing what I need to do for me. I can't do that this time I don't care who walks away from me or turns their back on me through this - I am fighting for my life and now I know this is truly going to be the fight of my life.
I stopped going to college because it went against the grain and became to much. I stopped doing so many things that my mind told me I could do but it didn't sit right or the time wasn't right and I gave up and ate my way through all my disappointments and now this one thing I want more than life itself has already been predetermined that i will fail. God help me please to do this on my own. As strong as I have had to be my whole life I need to be even stronger right now.
I really need to go to God on this because this right here was so unexpected - I feel like someone punched me in my heart, but I won't give the enemy the pleasure of seeing me defeated ever again in my life. My head is pounding my heart aches and I just need to rest, regroup and figure out my next steps. Don't fret, don't worry, I'm not who I use to be - I'm stronger today than I've ever been before.
My echo cardiogram is in the morning - how ironic is that - a broken heart on the eve of an exam for my heart lmbo, only me God.
It's very difficult to hear such harsh and unexpected words from a loved one. I will have the support of my fiancee for recovery, but I feel as though my mom and sister will just be shaking their heads.
Having always been the "good daughter" and obeying my parents like the Bible describes, it is difficult for me to let go and realize that sometimes family and friends can only love us the way they know how and THEY think what's best for us in THEIR mind. I have never been in a situation where what I want clashes with my mom, my dad is with me 100%, so this is very hard for me too. I dont even want to consider something going wrong and hearing "I told you so."
So I have to do this for ME like you have to do this for YOU and if your shadow is your only Earthly back-up, lean in girl, you can do this! You are in my prayers.
Hugs!

ps...sorry for spouting off!
My heart goes out to both of you. I had and have the support of my husband and friends, but family has always been complicated, especially my mom. Like you, I am a survivor. I have also spent my life putting others ahead of myself and sometimes changing what I thought was best for me to acommodate others. I spent literally years making this decision. These are some of the conclusions I came to: First and foremost, God gave me this life and this body. It is a temple of the Holy Spirit and I am to honor it. That does not mean a particular size or weight, but it does mean healthy and cared for. Secondly, I truly came to understand that if I do not care for this body, there will come a time when I will be unable to care for anyone else. And thirdly, honoring God does not mean that I think less of my family or their opinions. It means only that He is my priority and what He thinks is what matters most to me. I love them but to fully love them, I need to care for myself. The bible says to love your neighbor (family) as yourself. If I am not loving myself, than how am I truly loving them? Am I loving them in ways that are superficial and fleeting as I love myself filling up on junk, and too much of it? Or am I willing to be real and honest with them and love and care for them, the lovely and the ugly parts?
I am four months out from surgery. I still have the admonitions from certain family members about my choice, but you know what? I wouldn't change a thing. Some days are harder than others to make the right choices, and sometimes I feel certain family members try to manipulate circumstances to sabotage my goals, but that's okay. I can see that it is out of fear, and all I can truly do about that is continue to love them no matter what size I am - to pray that they will experience and accept love for what love is truly supposed to be. I pray you both find love and comfort and support in whatever form that group might take, and I pray that you feel God's loving arms and encouragement in a very special way as you walk this road. You are NOT alone - not ever!!
