i didnt have to go to a shrink because i paid for my surgery myself...so i cant help you with this...

AND CALM DOWN lol...i have seen a shrink or two for other stuff in my years walking around on this earht regarding anxiety issues etc...they are very nice and are very helpful because they only are concerned about your noggin lol...just guessing but im sure its just to make sure you are in the right frame of mind to change your eating habits...

When I went for my appointment I had to meet with two Drs. The first appointment was in the morning and she asked me a bunch of questions. From family, self esteem, emotions etc. I believe I had to answer either yes or no questions or on a scale from 1=10 questions. After I answered those questions I then had to come back 3 hours later and meet with another dr to go over those results and he also asked me questions about my weight and about surgery. I just told him why I got over weight and that the surgery was not a cure but a tool to help me. It will be fine.

P.S. just be honest and remember they are there to help you.

Mine was a piece of cake. She was wonderful. We talked about relationships with family and friends, both past and present. She aksed about my motivation for having surgery and what kinds of support I had in my life. It was more like a therapy session.

Basically she wanted to make sure that there weren't issues in my life that I was eating my way through. If you are using food as a crutch, those issues will still be there post surgery.

Don't worry - just be honest and open and you'll be fine.

lmbo at the CALM DOWN statement - thank you because I really need to. Okay all of your responses were lined up with what I thought - i just needed to be sure - one person told me that she shared to much refused to take medication and they refused her surgery so she cautioned me not to reveal too much. I plan to be honest as I can for my own good because i am ready but to say i haven't been through some things in my life would be a lie so who would that benefit yanno? My psych told me they were looking for what type of support system you'd have after surgery and if you have realistic expectations. They try to weed out people who blame all life's ills on their weight and think the surgery will be a magic pill towards a perfect, storybook life.

My psych just asked me what I was having done, if I had support of family or friends, an if I was being forced into this. After that it was just chit chat.. mainly about the work I do an so on. Nothing real worrisome. They just want to make sure you know what you are doing an that this is your choice an not anyone elses.

The psychiatrist gave me the go ahead in writing for my surgery. She said and I quote "you are a remarkable young woman to have survived all you did and landed on your feet, I am excited for you and I wish you all the best." She said that she has had to deny some people because they were not mentally ready but she could tell that i had both feet on solid ground and had no doubt that I would succeed on my weight loss journey. I was opened with her and shared another journey with her of having been raped and molested and survived that with the love and help of my family. Having lived through all that the rest is a piece of cake. I'm good.
