I was wondering if anyone has experience of using medical weed after RNY. I also want to know if edible weed still works. I have not tried edible so far, but with what I read about extended release pills are not to be used, I was wondering what people do.

I dont use medical marijuana and my surgery center says not to but i do have a friend who does she is alot further out i believe shes about 5years out and she says she gained the weight her weight back from having the munchies! She told me that smoking it works the same but edible doesnt. You should speak to your doctors about it they can give you the best advice. Keep in mind she also drinks heavily so her idea of what works may not be the best example.

II suppose it depends on the purpose of using the medical weed - assuming a pre-existing condition that requires it, and not pain control post-surgery.
I would absolutely not consider it without my doctor's approval.
My other thought, as noted in the other reply, controlling the "munchies" could really sabotage the surgery and hard work associated with it.

I have MS, and I do NOT use medical weed.. I never have... I was also told that smoking anything would burn and damage my pouch... So that is not an option in my life... I also do not want the munchies....

Talk to your doc honestly... And follow his advice...

I don't do weed in any form. It doesn't sound like avery good idea to me to use it.

Another thing to keep in mind is that WLS folks are prone to transfer addictions...hence the many warnings we receive about alcohol use, pain medications, and so on. If there is a substance out there that blunts our need to deal with the harsh realities of life, we can be tempted to use it the same way we have used food in the past. So, be doubly cautious before using anything that can derail the progress toward a happier healthier life.

Thanks for all the advice. I'm still pre-op and was wondering about post. I just tried some for the current pain, and one important fact is the amount of coughing would be ill advised for anytime soon after the surgery.

The other thing I found out is that a real low doses, the pain is reduced. Trying a higher dose, I felt no pain, but I was also too stoned to function at all. Maybe I could get the correct dose, but I think that may be hard to judge.

third, I think the cost would also make me think twice. I can get Pain meds for a $10 co-pay for a month. It may be OK to take a break maybe in the future.

I did try to use low THC,and high CBD, so as not to get too stoned nor get the munchies. I didn;t really get the munchies from what I used. I think the weed nowdays is more potent than ever, now that one can get medical grade weed.
