Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
I used: 5oz. Dixie cups. 1/2c plastic containers with lids (food to go)
I bought: seafood forks, tiny demitasse spoons, shot glasses to drink from. Tylenol strips, gas x, smooth move tea, Papaya enzyme tablets, 1 case Isopure clear protein drinks ( I can't stand blue raspberry flavored anything now!!) I did use 7 bottles of it, though.
I would say try to resist the "nesting syndrome" of gathering lots of things to use after surgery. It will be hard not to try, though! It did help me to be more "emotionally" prepared ;)
Try to under-pack for the hospital as well. I really didn't need anything other than hair brush, tooth brush and paste, deodorant, lightweight robe that snapped down the front, my pillow and the clothes I went there it. Oh yeah, lip balm!!
Have fun with you preparations!

Good luck to you remember walk walk walk sip sip sip
Chocolate - I have to attend support groups through the hospital here, and the people there have recommended lots of measuring cups and spoons, as well as making sure you have a really good blender/food processor for pureed foods. Some recommended the Magic Bullet, but that's not necessary. I'm trying to resist the urge to get everything and I'm not even getting my date until next week!!
I did use the magic bullet daily for my shakes. When I went to pure I used a mini food processor. Worked great!!
I didn't take anything extra to the hospital except my cell phone. LOL I only stayed overnight.
P.S. Chocolate, you are a joy to chat with.
Check out your local dollar store. I bought baby spoons (6-8 in a pack) and snack cups with lids (4 in the pack) each for $1.00. I actually found it useful to use the small utensils because I tend to eat too fast...
I did buy a little measuring cup glass from king soopers holds 5 oz but is clear and could see it. but once i was able to get my fluid in i haven't used it but for measuring food items.
as for the hospital i took a robe and put one arm in and the other my husband would put up over my shoulder. they gave me slipper socks since i was a fall risk and i wore their gowns. i took toothbrush, comb etc the bare necessities. My husband did bring my tablet which was how i was able to talk to you all the first night after surgery in between falling asleep. LOL
i also use a saucer or a small desert bowl for eating out of. it works just fine and usually do use the salad fork or ice tea spoon.
U can do it with out all the glamor of the fancy tools, i have 2 measuring cups 1/4 c and i just wash them when i am done with them each time.
Have fun with getting ready Lisa, but keep in mind taste buds will be different for awhile.
I used salad plates rather than dinner plates, and small pyrex storage bowls rather than cereal bowls for soups, etc.
I use a Mr. Coffee Coffee cup warmer to keep my meals warm.
I did buy some baby spoons at Ikea and although I am 21 mo. PO, I still use them. It reminds me to eat slowly and take small bits.
You can use a medicine cup that comes with things like cough syrups. I used them initially to sip two ounces every fifteen mintues....
And I used a small kitchen timer, set for 15 minutes, to remind myself to sip 1-2 ounces every 15 minutes. I used it for about six weeks, until my body was starting to understand itself and sipping had become a habit.
Hope this helps. :)
No need to spend a fortune. Most stuff that's good to use, I purchased at a Dollar Tree store.
