I haven't been around for awhile because I was finishing my dissertation. Now, I'm officially "Dr. JJ" and I'm back!! "Hello," to those who joined while I was away and "I missed you!!!" to everyone else!!

Here's a question for you... What are you most looking forward to as a result of GBS - as you become/became healthy?? If you're an old-timer, what were some of your favorite "NSV"s?

I'll start with a couple:

I can easily get up and down from sitting on the floor or in a chair!

I can buy clothes ANYWHERE! No more going to a different store or having to order online.

I am looking forward to being able to go into a store and shop for clothes without having to find the "Women's Section" as well! I just had surgery on the 6th so I have a little ways to go but I'm down 16 lbs already.

I'm looking forward to not having joint pain, especially in my left knee and also looking forward to getting on a bike and exploring the many trails we have in the Pacific Northwest!

Im looking forward to walking across a room and not everyone in the room hear me gasping for air...

Im Looking forward to shopping in womens and not the mens of clothes..

Im looking forward to enjoying life on this journey like i have never been able to in my entire life..

The constant daily NSV's (non scale victories) even years after surgery are some of the best parts of reclaiming my life. Early on it was everything from getting off cpap, being able to breathe freely, to being able to stand without feeling like I needed a boost, to fitting into restaurant booths and airplane seats. At 6 years out last year and at age 60 (61 now and 7 out) I painted the outside of my house. I did hire out for the upper story. Someone later made a comment about how the paint jobs seemed different and that whoever did the bottom half did a really good job. Me! My husband and I also did laminate flooring throughout the whole upstairs as well. We learned as we went and the floors look awesome! Last year I started barrel gardening and have expanded this year. I love eating my home grown food! I would have never been able to do these things pre op when I could barely move without huffing and puffing. Every day is a miracle and every day brings new NSV's!

For me, it's the really simple things, like being able to bend over and tie my shoes with out being out of breath. I am also looking forward to riding a bike path that goes from near where I live to the beach and is approximately 20 miles. More than anything, just feeling like I am back in control of my life rather than my weight.

Congratulations Dr. JJ!

I am looking forward to getting rid of diabetes, high cholesterol, high tryglycerides, sleep apnea, etc. etc. etc.

I can't wait to get my life back

Getting off some meds, being able to paint my own toenails. My clothes getting too big. Maybe even weighing less than my husband, who is very tall and thin.

My focus was to get off of my insulin pump which I did. It's only been 6 weeks since surgery and I stopped wearing it after a week! I want to watch my grandkids grow up, watch new ones be born and grow! Ive gotten rid of all my plus size clothes and can now shop in most stores! That's a victory to me!

The company that made my favorite shorts as a teenager recently started making them again, but a 42" waist is the largest size. I'm more excited about getting into those shorts than anything.
