So... I have a sewing machine that is tucked away and I seldom use. Use to sew more, but its been awhile.

I saw it in my closet the other day and was wondering if I would have any success altering my clothes as I lose to get more use out of them.

Have any of you done this? Did it work? Any tips?

I am no seamstress my any stretch of the imagination! But heck, if I can take some of my things in and get more use out of them, that would be nice!

I don't sew but good luck if you choose to do so. If you do as well as I expect you will then you'll be doing a lot of sewing. Since it's summertime I've been buying cheap shorts and t- shirts. In Florida that's the basic dress code for summer anyway. However, I swim a lot and have had to buy four new bathing suits already this year. lol When they get too big and you're swimming the bathing suit fills up with air and it's like wearing a life preserver. Kind of hard to swim that way. :)

Add me to the people who sew who didn't think it was worth the bother since you don't stay in one size long enough at first to make it worthwhile. And like several of the others, I was so happy to NEED new clothes that it made giving up the older ones easier (even my favorites). I gave some of the best to friends or my sister and donated the rest. I shop at Goodwill no matter what town I am in, and only buy new underthings and dress pants for work. I always have 2 good pair, one is the last size I wore and each time I buy a new pair it is a size smaller, and sometimes tight. Then soon enough the new pair is fine and the older pair is loose. My loss has slowed even more since my one-year anniversary but that's okay, I still am way better off than I was! And I just keep walking the walk and even if I don't lose any more, I am still good with maintaining at this size.
I just found a $75 Foxcroft shirt that looks brand new for $3 in my favorite color and I love it. I hate regular shopping but love the thrift store stuff. Even when they are sorted by color rather than size, that's okay, I just head for the colors I like and try on things that appeal to me no matter what the size. Sometimes I get a happy surprise that way because things fit that I wouldn't expect I would be able to wear!

After all of the work you are doing, you deserve some new clothes. That's what everyone told me. However, everyone didn't give me money to buy all of those new clothes I deserved.. I am wearing skirts and dresses, and have gotten down to all of those clothes i "grew out of" on my way 'up' the scale making WLS necessary in the first place. I don't want to spend a lot of money because i haven't hit goal yet, so i am buying from some of these used clothing shops. You will be surprised what you will find.
