Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
That's the unflavored powder I use. I primarily mix it into Greek Yogurt. It mixes pretty well with a good bit of stirring. It does not add a nasty taste, but it does mute the flavor the yogurt a bit. I've also mixed it with sugar free pudding and applesauce and it was fine.
I do find that if I mix it with drink packets I can taste it. Plus it clouds it up a little and I don't like that.
I mixed it into hot soup one time. Mistake. I knew better because I have their chicken soup flavored protein and you can't mix it at a temp higher than, I think, 130. Which is not hot enough for my taste.
tlc, if you happen to pop in here... I also found where you had posted the following...
I use unflavored Nector (made by Syntrax.com ), In the morning I make it up for the day, 60g protein or 6 scoops to it I add Sugar Free Nesquick 4 Tbsp. 1/2 cup Milk, and 1 1/2 Cup Water. This is enough for the whole day, I eat it 4oz at a time. For me too much milk at once has too much sugar for my body to tolerate, but if I add a little it still tastes like milk. I just keep it in a Protein Shaker in the fridge until I am ready to eat. Most protein tastes better when nicely chilled, A small protein shaker bottle 20oz is big enough for the whole day.
What I liked about Nectar is that it didn't clump as much as the other brands I tried, Pure Protein, Unjury, and Any Whey. I wish I could have bought the premixed, but I live in the middle of nowhere and its easier to order powder.
(More good info! Thanks!)
I figure presurgery all I am going to buy is the unflavored... :) Just to be safe!
And ifrocillo,
Yeah, here is the link... they sell baratric vitamins and other such stuff as well. Plus there are many others out there as well...

I liked Muscle Milk or Atkins premixed (Chocolate), but I cant really order and ship very well to my neck of the woods. I live in southern AZ on a military post on the Mexico border (BFE). So its pretty pricy to ship.
I didn't care for Unjury, just a flavor and smell thing. They have a disclaimer on their site http://www.unjury.com/store/protein/reg/chocolate_flavored_protein.shtml Under the list of ingredients:
"For all UNJURY flavors, do not use in liquids hotter than 140 F. Proteins, when heated, change texture. For example, you have seen an egg white go from a clear gel, to firm white, when cooked. For UNJURY, in a hot liquid, the proteins tend to clump. A food thermometer is a good way to get the temperature nicely warm...just right." I have always used this as a rule of thumb for other protein powders. I have heard a lot of people really like the Chicken Soup flavor of Unjury. I just use chicken broth or bullion cubes, and unflavored protein.
I can't stand clumps I have actually been known to puke it up if its not fully dissolved or tastes bad or has nasty aftertaste, never used to, but its a weird reflex after WLS now. I liked the taste of Pure Protein and I can get it here at my local store, but it clumped too much, I still have the full jar. Most of the ones I tried from GNC tastes like a monkeys butt (borrowed saying from Eggface). They also clumped a lot.
What I did like however was at the time GNC gnc.com has samples or if you buy it and dont like it you can return the container even half empty for a full refund with your receipt, but I am not sure if they still do that. My local Walmart does sell Atkins pre-mixed but I think there is another WLS person in town that is hoarding it, because they are always out lol :). That or they are working there and sticking it somewhere I can't find either way it sucks. Nectar syntrax.com (health & medical side) has a 12 packet sampler that you can get for $13.99 from but they are only 6g protein in size. I think I actually had to call in to get that offer, and Unjury unjury.com has samples that you can buy for full samples $1.99 each.
So far though I think the Nectar melts into liquid better. I make it early in the morning mix place it in the fridge work out and then come back. Most of the Nectar flavorings come in 23g servings which is 1/3 cup or 16tsp. So when I eat it I would add about 4tsp. to make it about 30g into 8oz liquid and split into 2 meals. When I come back if there are any small clumps left it quickly dissolves once I re-mix and drink. I just mix with plain old drink stirrers or a spoon. Its easier than pulling out the mixers. I find Protein tends to froth a lot in a mixer anyway, so for me its easier to just grab a spoon. But mixers are easier to use if your protein clumps a lot I just had to wait for the froth to dissolve.
I like the unflavored, for some reason I have sugar dumped on Nectar Strawberry and Vanilla I think it might be the sugar substitute they use. My body doesn't like a whole lot of sugar substitutes and I can get the dump :(. With the unflavored I can add what I know works for me, I have been known to put it in mashed potatoes, oatmeal, soups, smoothies, anything liquid, pureed veggies and ice cream (homemade). The only thing is that Nectar gets kind of sticky and if you dont use enough liquid in it, possibly from the way they design it to melt into liquids. So like say for oatmeal I will cook it up and then add about 20g protein to it, and some other type of flavoring like plain cinnamon, it gets real sticky.
If you are cooking you can use Any Whey Protein Powder at either GNC (usually sold out) or amazon.com for some reason it is designed to be cooked with, but by itself its not so great tasting. Eggface has some muffin tin size keish (cooked eggs) that I wanted to try it out on but I haven't yet. I have some other recipes, but when I try it out I will let you all know.
LOL now that I have typed a book I hope this is helpful :D
