if you could go back in time, would you go to a different college or would you join the military?
If you could go back in time would you rather go on a Viking raid or fight in one of the Crusades?
if you were in debtor's prison in england and they offered to release you if you would go to the colonies for a year or two instead. what would choose, the colonies sailing to there amongst the dangers of a wooden ship or continue your stay in civilized england and do your time in debtor's prison?
If you could go back in time would you want to witness Jackie Robinson's first major league baseball game or Jesse Owens' first Olympic victory in track and field?
it depended on which debtor's prison you went to actually. Charles Dickens was sent to one of these prisons (the Marshalsea), which he often described in his novels. He became an advocate for debt prison reform, and his novel Little Dorrit dealt directly with this issue. people could also bring their furniture and their families to some of these places, but not all of them - some of them were real prisons with real criminals. they claim most people chose debtor's prison over risking the wooden ship on the sea, because ships didn't always survive the 3 month voyage to colonies and the ships fell apart on the way there. as scary as it is, its the murderer's who were threatened with execution who mostly came over to the colonies via ship rather than be definitely killed for their crimes if they stayed. most people who came over to the colonies were actually people on death row.
jesse owen's first olympic victory. i'm a fan of the olympics.
All expenses paid, if you were back in the 40's and could settle in hollywood, california during the movies golden age, back when california was cheap or would you choose nyc which was also making movies as well as theatre and the high arts like ballet and opera, what would you choose?
Most people who came over to the colonies were people on death row? Since when was America Australia? That really puts a different spin on the whole "freedom from religious persecution" angle taught in school...
I'd choose NYC. Always NYC. I'm an East Coast gal at heart so any era I'd always pick New York over Cali.
If you could go back in time, would you rather be a part of the court of King Henry VIII in England when he was married to Anne Boleyn or the court of King Louis XVI of France and Marie Antoinette?
king henry the 8.
if you could go back in time, would you re-do 8th grade or 12th grade?
I'd rather do 12th grade again than 8th - I only had a half day schedule by 12th grade because I had most of my credits done by then for my diploma and the classes I was still doing were pretty easy ones at that so it wasn't exactly a taxing year for me. Plus, it was just more fun being 17 than being 13...
Would you rather witness Elvis Presley recording his first song at Sun Records or witness The Beatles working on their first album at Abbey Road Studios?
would you rather be in a silent movie in 1914 or in a talking movie in 1934?
Would you rather witness the creation of the Sphinx or the Great Wall of China?
Would you rather watch Monet painting in his garden in Giverny or Michelangelo sculpting David in Florence?
Would you rather be in the presidential cabinet in 1830 or the presidential cabinet in 1900?
Would you rather be in the space shuttle to be the first person in space or be with Christopher Columbus when he landed on America?
