Quite possibly, yes. A young child needs no more than a single swat to the rear end to express displeasure at his misdemeanor. More than that is abuse. Once a child is old enough to understand why he is being scolded, there is no further call for spanking.

I think my first instinct would be to stop it first and then call 911.

What is your favorite childhood memory?

Yes, my favorite memory is my grandfather teaching me gun safety and how to shoot. He'd set up a sawhorse and laid a line of Elmer's glue across the top bar. In the glue he set Necco wafers - little candies the size of a quarter. We'd shoot at those wafers and then set up more until we ran out, then we took our guns inside and cleaned them. There is a scent that comes with cleaning guns. It is a smell of solvent and lubricant, but to this very day, that smell is my grandfather.
