Once we cross that invisible line from social to compulsive gambler there is no going back. I cannot gamble even a little bit and I have come to accept that. I don't like it, I wish I could turn back the clock but it is what it is. Forgive yourself and hopefully learn something from your losses. I have been there, lost that much several times playing poker. I finally realized I can't win because even when I did I played until it was all gone and then some.

Hang in there Joe. We have all been there... I just went on two gambling binges and it was not good. Stay strong and hopefully things will get better.

Do you know why people don't complain about gravity, @joe100? It makes people look old. It makes your back bend, face sag and planes crash. But people don't complain about gravity because they think they don't have a choice.

When you get to the point when you realize it is either your life or the game, you'll realize you don't have a choice. And yes, of course you can still come here and complain about it afterwards -- but my point in all of this is, you have to get to the point where you know quitting is the only thing there is to do. There's no point in wishing or wanting to do better -- you must listen to that voice inside yourself that knows you must do better. And stick to it.

It got to my life or the game. 2 years ago I turned myself in to my boss (Oct 20, 2014) for gambling with money that was not mine. I faced 15 felony charges, prison, lost job, lost spouse, lost house, lost car and I was suicidal. Gambling had taken everything even my self worth. If you decide you are worth it and deserve a better life than what gambling has produced, you can choose life over gambling. It takes effort, it takes constant vigilance and it does not just go away. It takes tuning into our own feelings and talking about them, it takes getting connected with friends, family and community, it takes setting boundaries for yourself and others when it comes to your well being. It takes moving through life intentionally and constant awareness. (Very different from the gambling induced "unawareness" or oblivion most of us sought in gambling.) It takes brutal honesty with ourselves and others, it takes work. You can keep on like you are perhaps for years, perhaps forever, without getting into the messes that I did, maybe. But will that be a rich and rewarding life for you? Will your gambling bring you happiness? Five years, ten or twenty years from now, do you want to be going through the same patterns that you are doing now? (Gamble, worry, gamble, worry, gamble, worry, etc.) You can choose to get help and tackle this with all your effort and concentration where you have a chance at freedom. But if nothing changes nothing changes - if you do not make the effort to quit, you don't have a chance at happiness.
