My sobriety date is June 24, 2015.
Before that, I tried to quit multiple times. I made it about three days, seven days, one day, and about a month on attempts before relapsing. I finally had enough and decided to self-ban from the casino on June 24, 2015. I have not been back since.
Self-ban saved my life.
I am sorry to hear that you are depressed and feeling hopeless. A new life awaits for you, but the journey to get there will not be easy. You must be willing to self-ban. You must be willing to cope with the withdrawal period. You must be willing to learn new ways to cope with your everyday life.
You have to know that you are worth it. You are worth taking the time and the effort to stand up, be brave, and say no to gambling and yes to a better life.
like years and years of trying to quit
and hundreds and thousands of dollars trying to quit.
I find that this addicition only gets bigger as I gamble and
isolate myself and let the addiction get bigger.
As I look outward to not isolating and to involving myself with
living and other people the addiction gets smaller and smaller
and you absolutely must stay out of and away from any gambling
venues.
Until I had been abstinent for about a year and was feeling quite
"healthy" but NEVER cured,
I went and watched my friends play and saw the loosing and
the total and complete absurdity of it all. I spent hours walking and watching and the scenes just made me ill.
this is by no means a quick fix and this will be with you always
as others who have addictions,
you will always be an addict with an addictive personality,
this is almost impossible to change.
But, the good news.........
you can quit gambling and find the coping skills to ease the pain
and the NEW acitvities to fill the time and leave the gambling behind. IT is by far a looser game and can destroy you like any other addiction.
the best of luck
