Gambling Addiction & Recovery Support Group
Compulsive gambling is an urge or addiction to gamble despite harmful negative consequences or a desire to stop. A preferred term among many professionals is problem gambling, as few people described by the term experience true compulsions in the clinical sense of the word. do whatever you have to. Make him see the pain and agony of gambling and the strength and courage it takes to overcome this insidious disease.
Show him the huge percentage of posts that contain verbage concerning "keeping the money unavailable" and "placing hinderances to the cash" etc etc etc etc.
I think he just needs to know what having access to cash can do to a gambling addict.
You all will be fine and he sounds very kind, caring and accepting.
good stuff.
I know exactly how you feel about payday. I would try and promise myself to not go to the cafs! But inevitably that's where I ended up. EVERYTIME! Please try to make your husband understand your not ready for this step. And although you appreciate his confidence in you, you don't have the confidence in yourself quit yet. This is a sickness. It's like having an infection and only taking part of your abx because you start feeling better, only to get sick again and the infection is bigger than ever! I know. Before I tried stopping on my own a few times. It never worked. I know you can do this but you don't need the temptation and access to money right now. Neither can I. I would only setting myself up for a slip.
I'll be praying for you to make it through.
So success!
I told myself over and over as I walked there. I don't gamble anymore. I am not a gambler anymore and just did what I had to do quickly. It was also during work break so I set it up so I did not have much time.
I am going to work next on making sure that my grocery/gas money for the next two weeks stays sacred.
I was shaking and still am but I did get through. Thank you so much for your prayers and support.
like your mind has this check list and "chachit' (read checkmark) you have it done, it is right and all is well.
gambling I didn't have any checklists and no brain, no mind, no time, nothing for anything other than gambling. nada, zip, zilch.................
life, sorry, no time.
Again congratulations. And please take new's advice and let your husband read the posts here. I just hate to see someone in a position that makes them more vulnerable than they already are.
I had no glimpse of anything I was so uptight and just going through the motion of paying everything and getting any extra money into places I couldn't touch it as fast as I could and then get right back to work. ugh.
I will continue to share with hubby. He did ask me to call him and supported me before and after- having that accountability and just doing that one little step that affirmed I can trust myself to do the right thing- at least for this moment. It's all I thought about- that one moment and then the next breaking it down to little steps.
phew.
ok.
thank you thank you thank you so much.
yes I will. I will bring him here and show him.
At least for this moment I am safe.
I appreciate you being here for me through this step.
cool,
you didn't do it one day at a time,
you were doing it one second at a time.
They say whatever it takes and you mastered it.
Our local casino which is about 15 minutes away has our favorite steak house. I wonder if I will ever be well enough to eat there without failing or go see a show without failing. Maybe in a year I will be in that place. Today I cannot step foot into one of those places and while I had some success I have the humility to know that to the depths of my soul. I am still at risk.
