Gallstones Support Group
Gallstones (choleliths) are crystalline bodies formed within the body by accretion or concretion of normal or abnormal bile components. Risk factors for pigment stones include cirrhosis, biliary tract infections, and hereditary blood cell disorders, such as sickle cell anemia. Stones of mixed origin also occur.

I was diagnosed with gallstones a few months ago and have had two really bad episodes of cholecystitis, one this weekend requiring hospitalisation. I am terrified of having another one as the pain and sickness was so terrible. I was told I need a very low fat diet but not given any guidance other than that. I wondered if anyone had any resources for what to eat as I dont really have a clue. At the moment I feel scared to eat anything in case it makes me ill.
Thanks.
Thanks.

89FToday it is again another hot day but cooler then yesterday. Since this is August it is to be expected in my neck of the woods. All the grass is yellow and flowers are starting to go to seed. I need to water my garden but this time of the year I'm so over it, which is weird because all my plants have their fruit or veggies.Sandra, this time of year reminds me of your Dad and his toms. Look at labels on food and go by where it says per 100g
FAT 3g or less = low. 3.1-20g = medium and more than 20g is high!
So for example in a typical bag of walkers crisps there are 31.9 g of fat in 100g, so avoid crisps! They are fried in fat after all and your gallbladder, seeing as you have stones, cant produce enough bile to break down the fat.
I avoided crisps, pastry, cheese, chocolate, buttery stuff, fresh cream, pizza, rich cakes, biscuits.... you get the idea.
bonus i lost 9lbs!
Ive since had my gallbladder removed, 4 weeks ago today! If you have to have yours out and there's anything you want to ask, you can message me or ask here.
There's no method to dissolve gallstones, except for a medication that can slowly (VERY slowly) dissolve cholesterol-based stones. We're talking years. And it doesn't stop new stones from forming.
Ps make sure you have someone to help you for the first few days : )
If you want to see where incisions are, i have picture and could copy paste link, its not that gory just white bits of plaster here and there.
Nothing friend - only baked, boiled or steamed.
Nothing with a fat content over 5%
No red meat, dairy (although I can tolerate fatfree yoghurt), eggs, chocolate, bread
I think this leaves fish, lean chicken (eating the skin gives you pain), vegetables and most fruit (not oranges), rice, small amounts of pasta
Boring as heck - but it doesnt hurt...
