Food Addiction Support Group
An individual suffering from a food addiction disorder frequently experiences episodes of uncontrolled eating, or binging, during which they may feel frenzied or out of control. They will eat much more quickly than is normal, and continue to eat even past the point of being uncomfortably full. Binging in this way is generally followed by a period of intense guilt feelings...

One point that's central is separating guilt from shame: guilt is what you feel when you've done a bad thing, and it serves a purpose. Shame is when you think you ARE bad, and that serves no good purpose at all.
Of course I'm horribly simplifying her very eloquent writing, not doing it justice at all. But, that one particular concept really resonated with me, because I've recognized the horrible cycle we find ourselves in: I'm worthless/unlovable/bad/hopeless, might as well eat, omigod look at how much I ate, I'm worthless/unlovable/bad./hopeless. Over and over again.
She speaks of much more than addiction, but even when she's talking specifically about self esteem, I'm 'hearing' wisdom about dealing with addiction. And she doesn't talk down to her reader, or offer instant magical solutions, or try to sell you anything. Definitely worth a look if you feel like you could use a strong, sensible, loving woman's voice in your ear.
