They will eat much more quickly than is normal, and continue to eat even past the point of being uncomfortably full. Binging in this way is generally followed by a period of intense guilt feelings...

I've had a problem with compulsive over eating since I was about 8.
I finally seem to have my day time eating under control but at about 9:00 pm, I get overwhelming munchies.
I make pancakes if I have the ingredients - I'll eat anything that is not nailed down, it seems.
Does anyone else have this problem and if so - what do you do about it?
I'm really lost with this - it started in late 2009 and I still do not have it under control - I've gained about 30 pounds over the past few years because of this and I feel completely at a loss.

I had what I call a success last night after getting severe munchies right after dinner. I went straight for a very decadent type of CHOCOLATE PROTEIN BAR (makes me think I'm enjoying a candy bar) and a couple of servings of really SWEET CEREAL (Cookie Crisp still has vitamins and minerals in it!). I cut the protein bar into small pieces and ate the cereal one piece at time. It was "good for me" food and it stopped the cravings. I took my time eating it all VERY SLOWLY AND ENJOYED IT, so they lasted about four hours. Got sleepy, went to bed.
I call that a success after the 2000+ calorie night binges I usually have at night! :) WOHOO! I hope this helps you come up with something that works for you!
My brain is fixated on binges at that time of night, and so it releases signals to create the urge at that time.
1. Acknowledge whether or not you're actually hungry. Eat a little something, if not, accept it and move on.
2. Be aware that in time, bad habits are dropped. Just need to be consistent for long enough to change them.
