I think motivation is what I struggle with the most. Making time to work up a good sweat is not an easy thing for me to do anymore.
How about you?
I can totally relate to you about the motivation. Usually it also has to do with making time for it. It's so easy for me to pick up my phone and spend 5 minutes at a time throughout the day checking email, social media etc. several times throughout the day. I think making good use of my time in order to prioritize getting in a workout is where I struggle.
I think I read somewhere that it takes 3 weeks of doing the same thing every day, to create a habit which means it's hard wired into our brain so that when we skip a day, we miss it and can't wait to do it again.
I use to be a long distance runner years ago but am getting lazy in my old age so I need to get back into it. I miss it.
Yes I can relate to what you said. There are a few other members who I hope read your post. If not, I will write to them.
For this discussion, I wanted to see if you all would tell me about a few of your favorite/or go-to exercises.
Personally, I always have a hard time working out my thighs and glutes. I find I do better getting those worked out when taking a fitness class like bodypump at the YMCA. They do a lot of weightbearing techniques to music to train the whole body. If I am at the house and I feel like I need to get in a quick mini workout in, I usually do crunches. At the gym, I really like the elliptical. I try to do the normal forward pedaling and then reverse it for a little bit near the end. It gives me a more complete feeling of toning more muscles. I like the exercise machines that are set up where you can just move the bar and it will adjust to the weight you are wanting to lift, push, etc... Since i am not very strong, it helps me be able to work on gaining muscle without worrying about taking off the massive weight that the person before me was using!
Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks!
I do leg day on Thursdays. I don't do any cardio that day. I am naturally very strong in my glutes and hamstrings. I like to warm up by holding a weight in each hand, then I do a walking lunge followed by a standing kickback. I do these weighted walking lunges with kickbacks all the way accross the weight room and back.
Leg day at the gym, I like to use the cable tower or the machines, like the leg curl machine, calf press, abductor/adductor. At home I do high rep bodyweight moves like prisoner squats and single leg calf raises. My fav move is probably diamond squats, but I also really like deadlifts.
I prefer to do my weight lifting alone so I can really focus on form. I like classes for cardio, such as kickboxing, or learning new equipment like the trx straps. I prefer free weights for upper body days, but sometimes I use the cable tower. I also really like the assisted pull up machine, the preacher curl bench, and the triceps press machine. Rowers and the stepper are my fav cardio machines.
I enjoy the leg curls as well. Anythingh that has to do with strengthening my legs. I am at an age now where all my friends are having knee replacements but I have never had any problems with my knees and I really believe it's due to all the exercise they have had through the years
My upper body strength is very poor and needs alot of work.
The gym I go to is very small and doesn't have alot to choose from. It use to be a lunch diner years ago. It was closed for a long time and then a trainer who worked for a local doctor, bought it and turned it into a gym. She also does the airobic classes as well. We have a Champions and a Planet fitness about 45 minutes away but for me, it is too far to drive..

Thank you both for your responses! I didn't know that the forum does not send out emails when a new post is made. I will try to send out emails to both of you.
The notifications for new replies will show up under notifications which is located at the opposite end of the green banner at the top, on the right side where your profile photo or avatar is located. just click on that and you will see a menu pop out from the right and the second one down is notifications which has a list of all the activity of members who are on your friends list.
This is the one I forget to check but I will pay attention in the future.
Once you get use to this site, you will be able to navigate it without thinking about it.
There are some I met here who I know quite well and we often chat on facbook or skype or hangouts so that could be an option to think about if you want to get together in real time. I know on facebook chat, you can invite multiple people in the same chat and that's pretty cool. So let me know what y'll wanna do because I'm always agreeable to most anything.
I love you guys!
