My avitar is in remembrence of a former DS friend who past away. We had become great email buddies. We had a ongoing joke that I was Wonderwoman and he was a superhero too.

When he passed away I created this avitar in his honor. I still miss him.

I don't have a special avatar. At first I did upload a photo of one of my darling cats, but then I decided to just use one of the ones offered by the site. I picked the multiple butterflies because I feel so differently on different days, yet when they all come together, they blend well and are aesthetically pleasing to view. I also no longer guilt myself over feeling differently on different days or about being inconsistent. Instead, I pat myself on the back for being a multi-faceted talented person.

My avatar is Boston, our 7 year old Boxer, he is my four legged, furry son. He was my birthday gift 3 years ago, my husband had a friend pass away and Boss was left behind, the friend's sister could not care for him, she already had two large dogs, so Richard, my husband, brought Boss home. I always wanted a dog of my own, but, I have gotten so much more, he is my friend, my protector, my exercise buddy, my silly boy when I feel down. Boston lays beside me when the fibro is bad, he stays right by my side when Richard is out of the office. Boss is so big and gentle, but he has this look on his face kind of daring someone to mess with his Mommy. We manage a self storage facility and a tenant was angry and started yelling and pointing at me, Boss tried to jump over the counter, barking and growling at the guy. The tenant moved out shortly and the legend of Boston the protective security guard spread quickly, there was no more yelling in my office ever.

My avatar is abstact. I love the play with colors. I am a quilter and have recently started playing with abstract designs and colors to top off my quilts. Lots of fun!!!

Hi Narey. I know this is late in getting on here but I found your post very interesting and just wanted to add my one cent (can't afford the 2 cents these days! hehehe) I also found many of the comments to be quite intereting too. I have always used my 2 cats in all avatars. They are my constant companions since I'm home a lot and I like making what I call "manipulated pics" so I have tons of pictures where I've put them in many different activities. I change my pic pretty often but it will always be something about them.

My avatar definitely does not go with my online name of "irishrooster". The "irishrooster" name has its own story and when someone decides to do a posting about oline names I will tell that story. My little kitten I just picked out of images because I have always wanted a white cat with green eyes. Seems like I have had every single color but white! Maybe someday. Also when I am suffering from a lot of pain my husband brings my big orange tabby named Millie Mouse to me and I curl up with her. She always seems to know that I am in pain. She will purr without me scratching her and she will stay until I fall asleep or until she knows the pain has let up. She is very intuitive about my pain and yet she is a first generation domestic cat. Her parents were both feral cats. I would NEVER trade her for that cute little white kitten though.

My pic is my 11-year-old Cleo. She is one of my two joys. The other is 8-year-old Shadow, but I have been unable to get a decent picture of him since he is all black, no matter what kind of light I use. So, when I can get one of him, I will switch between the two.

They are constant companions when I am home and they are therapy for me when I am in pain. They are also very tolerant when I need to sleep in and wait patiently for their breakfast. Love my cats!

I can only afford 1 cent too... My pic is of my best dog ever, Rascal the boxer. I recieved him when he was about 5 weeks old, and he died a little over 10 years later of cancer. I do miss him. He truely loved life no matter what. He was a constant inspiration to me through a divorce of 20 years, and then into a new and very healthy marriage about 4 years ago.

I used to have a pic of me up as my avatar, but then one day discovered non members of the DS site could see me and my profile, and I prefer more privacy than that. I would change my name if they would let me....oh well.

What a neat question. (i'm fairly new, and i lurk more than i post).

My first avatar... was a soft, sewn, fabric cup of tea w a smiley embroidery. At first i thought it kinda represented me... I luv tea, and to sew (quilts). I thought the smiley would be helpful to others, and show that i was an optimistic kind of person, but when i saw it posted on here, i hated that smile, cuz it looked like i was happy. I am not happy! I"m upset and frustrated and in pain.

When I found this panda photo I thought it did a number of things i wanted to accomplish w my little avatar. Maybe that sounds silly to want to accomplish something, but pictures speak louder than words, and i kept remembering some of the avatars i enjoyed seeing that made me feel good.

The panda is soft. Can't get enuff soft in my life (and i imagine that's the same for all of us because of the pain). I love the gentle hugs people send me, so i wanted my gentle hugs to be accompanied by a soft cuddly panda when i send them! So now i say "sending soft panda hugs" sometimes. I love the panda. I hope to keep it and that everyone remembers me by it, for better or worse!!!

Oh yeah... and the panda in the tree can be interpreted different ways. Maybe the panda is there because it wants or needs solitude, or maybe because it feels isolated and depressed. Maybe the panda is stuck and wants to get down but can't. Maybe... It's just a pic of a panda!

I agree with you Audrianna that pictures speak louder... and when we choose an avatar, it definitely says SOMEthing about us. Even those who choose the generic ones make a choice. Those reading this now, will see that I don't even have a turtle pic up anymore... I have my books. I'm sure people who see it will know I love books... lol... there's more meaning there to ME, but that at least is pretty obvious.

my current avatar is my horse, Adobe. i bought him a few months ago, after 25 years of not having a horse. and after the doc telling me i'd never ride again. i just wanted an old horse i could love, just to brush and take care of. well, he's a pistol! and guess what-i CAN ride! he's a Paso Fino, a gaited horse, and very small. and full of spirit! but when i'm down, he lets me cry on his shoulder, and vent to him, without judging me. so, my "old man", as i call him, is there to remind me that i can do what ever i set my mind to. :)

sigh, i can't (despite instructions) figure out how to copy and paste something else, can't figure out my mac...took me forever to post a head shot on FB and when I finally did it, got a standing ovation of cheers and atta girls from my family and friends...still don't know how I did it...I have an instructional mental reverse load up chip or something...

so i went with an avatar face that looked like me, but then my hair went from blond to silver... now i've decided to take that in stride and go with flowers...."bloom where I am planted." the end...

My avatar is my best feline friend, my aunt's cat Shadow. The full image has him coming right toward the camera, as if to say "I'm here! What's going on?" We are a lot alike. We're both cute, cuddly, kinda shy at first, curious, and have little trouble getting our claws out when someone hurts us. We both wear black a lot too.
